Another Nice Outing By Reese Propels Prince George's Baseball To Win Against Westmoreland County

YOUNGBLOOD, Pa. – Clark Reese (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) recorded 10 strikeouts for the second-straight game and Bay To (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) had three hits and two runs scored to propel Prince George's Community College past Westmoreland County Community College 9-1 in the nightcap of a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XX Division III baseball doubleheader on Sunday. The Owls lost the opener, 11-10.

Reese allowed one unearned run on four hits with 11 strikeouts in a seven-inning complete-game effort. The freshman registered 10 strikeouts in 6.2 innings in a 5-3 win against Garrett College in his last start on Apr. 22. Reese leads the team with four wins on the year.

To went 3-for-4 in the second game with two runs scored including a steal of home in the second game after going 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs in the opener.

Pedro Montero (LaRomana, Dominican Republic/Colegio Nueva) posted a 3-for-7 performance on the day with five RBIs and two runs scored while Vinny Rotundo (New York, N.Y./Middletown) combined for four hits, three runs scored and three RBIs in the victory.

Prince George's scored a run in the second and eight in the third to go on for a 9-1 victory in the second game.

Rotundo doubled in the second and came around to score on Montero's sacrifice fly in the second for a 1-0 edge.

To helped start an eight-run third with a single and was followed by singles by Josh Pietrandrea (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge), Rotundo and Naquan Holden (Brooklyn, N.Y./Perkiomen). Alicea then smacked a two-run double and Tommy Petrosino Jr (Bayonne, N.J./St. Anthony) and Montero each plated a run on a single and double, respectively. Brandon Crosby (Richmond, Va./Atlee, Mechanicsville) scored Montero on a sacrifice fly before To tripled and stole home to cap the eight-run outburst.

In the opener, the Owls lost 11-10.

The squad got on the scoreboard with a run in the first. Jake Brewer was hit with a pitch and Crosby singled before To brought home Brewer on an RBI groundout.

Brewer was the catalyst for a two-run third after the sophomore doubled to start the inning. After Crosby walked, To plated Brewer on an RBI single and Crosby scored on a double play.

Trailing 11-3, Prince George's scored seven times in the seventh. Crosby tripled and touched home on To's RBI single. Consecutive walks by Pietrandrea, Alicea and Dominic Marquez (Long Beach, Calif./Jordan) forced To home. Montero brought runs home on a double and Brewer hit a sacrifice fly to make it a one-run game at 11-10. With runners at first and second, a fly out ended the game.

Keaton Bradley (Bahama, N.C./Northern Durham) took the loss.

Prince George's returns to action on Tuesday at CCBC Catonsville. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
