Prince George's Baseball Drops Doubleheader To Chesapeake

LARGO, Md. – Saturday at the Prince George's Community College Baseball Field featured the best weather at a home baseball game all year with the athletics department bringing its 50th Anniversary, A Celebration of the Past, Present and Future down to the diamond. In a doubleheader against Chesapeake College, the first game was an "Old Fashion Baseball Game" with no announcements except the starting lineups and no music except the traditional seventh-inning stretch song "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" in the fourth inning since the games in doubleheader are only seven innings. In between games, fans were treated to Coldstone ice cream in a replica 50th Anniversary gold plastic helmet.

Brandon Crosby (Richmond, Va./Atlee, Mechanicsville) paced the Owls (11-16, 6-9 Maryland JUCO) with two hits and a run scored. Bay To (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) added three hits and Josh Pietrandrea (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) smacked a solo home run in the opener for the Largo program.

The Skipjacks defeated Prince George's 9-1 in the opener. Pietrandrea smacked a solo homer to center field in the fourth inning for the Owls lone run. It was the freshman's third homer of the season and first since he posted two round trippers in the season opener on Feb. 24. To added a triple in the seventh.

Chesapeake scored three runs in the second and third and then posted single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to earn the victory.

The Largo team then dropped a 12-1 decision in the second game. Crosby singled to right field in the bottom of the first and To put runners at the corners on a single up the middle. The sophomore tandem then successfully completed a double steal for the squad's only run of the contest.

The Skipjacks registered two runs in the first, three in the second, five in the third and two in the seventh in the nightcap.

Anthony Cavalier (Sarasota, Fla./Braden River) took the loss in the opener and Shawn Alicea (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street) took the defeat in the second game.

Prince George's returns to action on Sunday at Garrett College. Game time is 12 p.m.
