Prince George's Baseball Upended By CCBC Catonsville

LARGO, Md. – Prince George's Community College lost to CCBC Catonsville 17-7 in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) baseball action on Thursday.

Brandon Crosby (Richmond, Va./Atlee, Mechanicsville) paced the Owls (9-13, 3-6 MD JUCO) with two hits, three RBIs and a run scored. Bay To (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) posted two hits, a run scored and an RBI while Austin Adams (Atlanta, Ga./Whitewater) and Tommy Petrosino Jr (Bayonne, N.J./St. Anthony's) each added a hit and two runs scored.

Prince George's scored five runs in the third to erase a four-run deficit and take a 5-4 advantage.

Abdul Mateen Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa./The Preparatory School) walked to open the third and Adams reached on an error attempting to move Bradley up a base and Petrosino walked to load the bases. Crosby then cleared the bases with a two-run single through the left side while Petrosino touched home on an error on the play. To tied the game when he plated Crosby with an RBI double to right center. After To stole third, Vinny Rotundo (New York, N.Y./Middletown) gave the Owls a 5-4 lead when he grounded into a double play.

The Cardinals tied the game in the top of the fourth with a run before the Largo team retook a one-run margin with a run in the bottom of the frame. Adams singled to center field and Petrosino moved him to second on a sacrifice bunt before Adams advanced to third on a passed ball. Crosby knocked in Adams for his third RBI of the afternoon on a sacrifice fly to right for a 6-5 edge.

CCBC Catonsville scored five runs of its own in the sixth to take the lead for good at 10-6. 

A run in the bottom of the sixth by Prince George's trimmed the deficit to 10-7. With one out, Petrosino reached on an infield single and moved to third on Crosby's single to center. Crosby then stole second while Petrosino scurried home on an error on the play. 

The Cardinals then scored three runs in the eighth and four runs in the ninth to set the final score at 17-7.

Clark Reese (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) took the loss for the Owls.

Prince George's returns to action on Tuesday when the squad concludes its four-game homestand against CCBC Essex. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
