Reese Strikes Out 10 In Game-Two 5-3 Victory Against Garrett College

MCHENRY, Md. – Clark Reese (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) struck out 10 batters and Austin Adams (Atlanta, Ga./Whitewater) and Josh Pietrandrea (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) each hit a solo homer to help Prince George's Community College defeat Garrett College 5-3 in the nightcap of a Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) doubleheader to earn a split on Sunday.

Reese allowed three runs on eight hits with 10 strikeouts to pick up his third win of the season. Adams and Pietrandrea both went yard in the fifth inning to give the Owls (12-17, 7-10 MD JUCO) a 5-1 lead. Adams had three hits, two runs scored on the day along with his first homer of the season. Pietrandrea went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, two runs scored and an RBI in the second game and posted a 4-for-8 afternoon with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Bay To (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) went 1-for-2 with four RBIs and two runs scored in the opener, including a three-run home run for his team-leading fifth round-tripper of the year. The sophomore had nine homers last season and now has 14 in his two-year career.

Prince George's jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap and held on for a 5-3 victory.

Pietrandrea started a rally in the second with a single before Shawn Alicea (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street) waked. Tommy Petrosino Jr (Bayonne, N.J./St. Anthony's) plated Pietrandrea on an RBI single and Naquan Holden (Brooklyn, N.Y./Perkiomen) followed with an RBI single of his own to bring home Alicea. O'Neal Torche (Jersey City, N.J./St. Anthony's) capped the three-run inning with a sacrifice fly to score his high school teammate Petrosino and give the Owls a 3-0 lead.

After Garrett scored a run in the third to cut the margin to 3-1, Adams and Pietrandrea each smacked homers to increase the advantage to 5-1. The homer was Pietrandrea's second homer of the weekend and fourth of the season. The Lakers scored twice in the seventh, but the Largo team came away with a 5-3 victory.

In the opener, Prince George's cut the margin to 5-4 in the fifth before Garrett scored the next five runs en route to a 10-6 decision.

The Owls got on the scoreboard with a run in the third. Dylan Irizarry (Statesboro, Ga./Statesboro), who earned the save in the second game, walked before Adams reached on an error and Brandon Crosby (Richmond, Va./Atlee, Mechanicsville) to load the bases. To then coaxed a bases loaded walk to bring home Irizarry and tie the game at 1.

Trailing 5-1 in the fifth, To came up big to cut the deficit to 5-4. After Adams reached on a single and Jake Brewer (Gibson City, N.J./Gibson City Melvin Sibley) was hit by a pitch, To smacked a three-run homer to make it a one-run game.

Crosby singled and To walked and both runs scored on a Pietrandrea RBI groundout to set the final score at 10-6.

To took the loss for the Largo program.

Prince George's returns to action on Tuesday at Harford Community College. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
