Prince George's Baseball Tabbed 10th In The NJCAA Preseason Poll

LARGO, Md. - Prince George's Community College baseball team is ranked 10th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Preseason Poll announced on Thursday.

The defending national champion Tyler Junior College, who defeated Prince George's in the opening game of the 2017 NJCAA Division III World Series, is the preseason favorite after receiving 60 points. Niagara County (52 points), Cumberland County (49 points), Northampton (38 points), Century (35 points), St. Cloud Tech (29), Rowan Gloucester (23 points), Brookhaven (16 points), Delta (13 points) and Prince George's (8 points) rounded out the poll.

The Owls posted one of their best seasons in program history in 2017 after finishing 38-15-1 overall and 12-11-1 in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference play. The Largo program won the NJCAA Division III Region XX Tournament by winning all three games it played on its way to its fourth region title and second under head coach Buddy Foster. Prince George's then defeated Surry Community College in a two-game sweep of a best-of-three series to advance to the World Series.

Foster was named the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Diamond National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III District D Regional Coach Of The Year in 2017.

The Owls received numerous awards last year, including having two players receive NJCAA Division III All-American recognition. Prince George's placed five players on the All-NJCAA Division III Region XX team and two on the MD JUCO all-conference team. In addition, a player was named the NJCAA Division III National Pitcher of the Week twice this season. 

The Owls were ranked in six of the final seven national polls last season.
