Prince George's Baseball Drops Maryland JUCO Tilt Against CCBC Essex

LARGO, Md. – Prince George's Community College falls to CCBC Essex 13-3 in eight innings in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) baseball action on Tuesday.

Alexander Montero (LaRomana, Dominican Republic/Colegio Nueva) paced the Owls (9-14, 4-7 MD JUCO) with two hits and an RBI. Jake Brewer (Gibson City, Ill./Gibson City Melvin Sibley), Naquan Holden (Brooklyn, N.Y./Perkiomen) and Tommy Petrosino Jr (Bayonne, N.J./St. Anthony's) each added a hit and a run scored while Abdul Mateen Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa./The Preparatory School) registered an RBI. Keaton Bradley (Bahama, N.C./Northern Durham) took the loss despite striking out seven batters while allowing five runs (two earned) in six innings of work.

The Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead through two innings before Prince George's scored twice in the second to cut the margin to 3-2.

Holden walked, Brewer reached on an error and Shawn Alicea (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street) reached on an infield single. Bradley brought home Holden on an RBI ground out fielder's choice before Montero singled through the right side to bring home Brewer to make it a one-run game.

CCBC Essex answered with a run in the top of the third and the Owls responded with a run in the bottom of the frame.

Petrosino singled to right center and moved to second on a failed pickoff attempt. After Bay To (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) walked, the duo pulled off a double steal and Petrosino touched home on a throwing error on the play to trim the margin to 4-3. Prince George's loaded the bases after Brewer was hit by the pitch and Alicea walked, but a strikeout ended the threat.

After the Knights added a run in the sixth, the Largo team threatened again, but could not score. Bradley walked before Montero and Austin Adams (Atlanta, Ga./Whitewater) each singled to load the bases with one out. CCBC Essex got out of the jam with a strikeout and a ground out and then scored six runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to end the game.

Prince George's starts a two-game road trip at CCBC Dundalk on Thursday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
