Prince George's Drops Twinbill To Montgomery

GERMANTOWN, Md. – Prince George's drops a Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) and National Junior College Athletic Conference (NJCAA) Region XX Division III baseball doubleheader to Montgomery College on Saturday. The Raptors won the opener 11-4 and then took the nightcap 12-10.

Josh Pietrandrea (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) paced the Owls (8-11, 2-4 MD JUCO) with three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Tommy Petrosino Jr (Bayonne, N.J./St. Anthony's) added four hits and an RBI while Steven Fondeur (Hollywood, Fla./South Broward) hit a pinch hit three-run homer in the nightcap and Jake Brewer (Gibson City, Ill./Gibson City Melvin Sibley) went 2-for-2 with a two-run double in the opener.

In the second game, Prince George's scored three runs in the third, two in the sixth and five in the seventh. The Owls had the tying run at the plate in the seventh, but a strikeout ended the game.

The Largo team cut the Raptors lead to 4-3 with three runs in the third. Austin Adams (Atlanta, Ga./Whitewater) reached on an fielder's choice, moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a balk and then touched home on a failed pickoff attempt at first. Pietrandrea brought home Bay To (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann Goretti), who walked, on an opposite field triple. Vinny Rotundo plated Pietrandrea on an RBI single to right center to make it a one-run game.

With Montgomery leading 9-3, Prince George's scored twice in the sixth to cut the margin to 9-5. Naquan Holden (Brooklyn, N.Y./Perkiomen) reached on an error and Dominic Marquez had a wind-aided base hit to right field before Petrosino beat out an infield single for an RBI single to bring home Holden while Marquez crossed the plate on a error on the play.

A five-run seventh nearly helped the Owls rally to tie the game. Pietrandrea was hit by a pitch to open the frame and then. Rotundo followed with a see-eye single up the middle. After Holden singled, Marquez coaxed a bases loaded walk to force home Pietrandrea. Alexander Montero (LaRomana, Dominican Republic/Colegio Nueva) plated Rotundo with a sacrifice fly and then Fondeur smacked a pinch-hit three-run homer for his first collegiate round tripper and cut the margin to 12-10.

Clark Reese (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) took the loss in the nightcap.

In the first game, Prince George's grabbed a 2-1 lead in the second and then added runs in the fourth and the seventh in an 11-3 loss.

In the second, Abdul Mateen Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa./The Preparatory School) walked and Holden reached on an error before Brewer smacked an opposite field double to give the Owls a 2-1 lead.

Bradley was the catalyst for the Owls run in the third after he tripled and scored on Pietrandrea's RBI single to left field.

In the seventh, Adams reached on an error and then Petrosino put runners on the corners with a single and To plated Adams with an RBI fielder's choice.

Dylan Irizarry (Statesboro, Ga./Statesboro) took the loss in the first game.

Prince George's begins a four-game homestand on Monday against CCBC Dundalk. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
