Strong Second Half Lifts Men’s Basketball Past Riverhawks

The Prince George's Community College men's basketball team earned their third win in a row on Wednesday, February 7th after defeating visiting Anne Arundel Community College during the Owls sophomore night, 90-72. The win moves the Owls to 17-5 on the season which includes a 7-5 mark in conference play.

It was a close battle at halftime with the two programs headed into the break separated by a single point with Anne Arundel in front, 35-34. Despite the Owls not playing their best ball, they managed to keep things close and used adjustments during the intermission to flip the switch in the second half.

With teams trading baskets and swapping leads in the second, it wasn't until the 12-minute mark when the Owls went on a bit of a run and began to distance themselves from Anne Arundel. A 12-0 run which included a pair of threes and an emphatic dunk from freshman Jailin Landis (Capitol Heights, MD) gave Prince George's their first double-digit lead, 63-53, with 10:10 remaining. With the Riverhawks attempting to climb back as time continued to tick away, it was the Owls who were able to control the tempo of the game which allowed them to choose the shots needed to keep Anne Arundel out of striking distance to close out on top.

Jasir Tremble (Washington, D.C.) once again finished as the Owls leading scorer with 23 points to go with 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Albert Mouring (Upper Marlboro, MD) continued to showcase his elite shooting skills as he finished with 16 points off the bench which included a 4 for 7 line from deep. Landis also finished in double-figures with 15 points to go with his 8 boards and 5 assists off the bench as well.

Up next for the Owls is an away game on Saturday, February 10th at CCBC Dundalk. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 PM.
