#4 Owls Pull Away in Second Half Against Butler County

The Prince George's Community College men's basketball team avenged their pair of losses from last season against Region 20 DIII opponent Butler County on Sunday, December 10th, defeating the Pioneers 101-86 in front of a home crowd. The win marks the Owls fifth straight and moves the team to 8-1 on the season which includes a perfect 4-0 slate against DIII programs.

The first half was as close as could be with teams trading baskets before the Owls hit a layup as time expired to head into the break with a 40-39 lead. Prince George's starting five had scored 31 of the Owls 40 points at halftime but it was Albert Mouring (Upper Marlboro, MD/Frederick Douglass) who led the team in scoring with 9 points, all of which came from range. Saveon Jackson (Kentland, MD/KIPP College Prep) turned in another packed first half on both sides of the ball with 7 points while also grabbing 4 boards and dishing out 4 assists as well.

Much like their game just one day prior against Garrett College, the Owls gave up the lead to open up the second half and had to claw their way back to regain control. While Prince George's managed to do so minutes later, it wasn't until much later in the game when the Owls had taken over full control with a double-digit lead, 90-80, with 2:32 to go. Prince George's closed out with an 11-6 run which was exclaimed by a Jailin Landis (Capitol Heights, MD/ Suitland) dunk that gave his team their 100th point to eclipse the century mark for the first time this season for the Owls.

Jackson finished with 29 points in back-to-back games to lead the Owls in scoring while also grabbing 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Jasir Tremble had his 9th straight game finishing in double figures with 23 points which included a 5-of-11 line from three-point distance. Mouring ended with 22 points off the bench and Landis finished with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists in the victory.

Prince George's will get some well-deserved rest before they wrap up their home stretch this coming Friday, December 15th against CCBC Catonsville at 7 PM. Catonsville is currently 8-4, 2-2 MD JUCO on the year while Prince George's stands at 8-1, 3-1.
