Men’s Basketball Dominates Chesapeake at Home, 83-57

The Prince George's Community College men's basketball program improved to 5-1 on the season following an 83-57 rout over visiting Chesapeake College on Friday, December 1st. All five of the Owls starters scored in double figures as Prince George's rolled to their largest win of the year.

The Owls locked down Chesapeake's scorers, especially in the first half, as they held the Skipjacks to just 18 points on 23% shooting from the floor to head into halftime with a commanding 46-18 lead. Sophomore Jasir Tremble (Washington, D.C./Theodore Roosevelt) led all scorers at the break with 16 points on 5 of 11 shooting. Teammate Avery Scott (Glenn Dale, MD/DuVal) had also reach double digits with 11 points by the half in his second consecutive start. Scott was responsible for nearly half of Prince George's seven made threes in the first half as he connected on 3 of 4 from beyond the arc.

The Owls strong attack continued after the break as Prince George's would go on to lead by as many as 33 points with ten minutes remaining. While Chesapeake managed to begin to swing the score towards their favor, their first half deficit was too large to overcame and make any real threat at a comeback as Prince George's held on for the 26-point win.

Tremble finished as the game's top scorer, finishing with 18 points to go along with 3 boards, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Scott, Saveon Jackson (Kentland, MD/KIPP College Prep), and Justin Minor (Largo, MD/Largo) all finished with 13 points each. Jackson and Minor both also collected 7 rebounds. Freshman Jailin Landis (Capitol Heights, MD/Suitland) added 10 points to round out the starting five which combined for 67 of the teams 83 points.

The Owls will stay put for their next few games, beginning with Harford Community College who visits Prince George's for a 7 PM game on Wednesday, December 6th.
