The Prince George's Community College women's basketball team hosted Anne Arundel's Riverhawks on Wednesday, February 7th during the Owls sophomore night and cruised to a 114-48 victory. The win improved the Owls record to 11-5 on the season, including 7-4 in Maryland JUCO play.
The Owls started hot right from the tip and never looked back as they outscored the Riverhawks in all four quarters and had built a 51-23 lead by halftime. Freshman Natavia Ross (Clinton, MD) was already on pace for a career day at the break with 16 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists while Amari Jones (Landover, MD) had already collected herself a double-double by the midway point with 12 points and 10 boards.
After a halftime celebration recognized the Owls lone sophomore this year in Danielle Ellerbee (Brandywine, MD), Prince George's continued to dominate in the second half, outscoring Anne Arundel 26-12 and 37-13 in the final two quarters, respectively. Ross finished the day with a 46-point, 10-rebound double-double performance which marked the highest individual scoring game for the Owls since head coach Devin May joined the program in 2021.
Jones was one of three Owls who earned a double-double on the evening with 24 points and 13 rebounds while Kalise Evans (Springdale, MD) poured in 18 points and picked up 15 boards.
As impressive as the Owls were on offense during the 114-point showing, their defense was noteworthy on its own as they held the Riverhawks to just 27% shooting from the floor while holding Anne Arundel to zero made three-pointers on their 17 attempts.
The victory moved the Owls to 2-0 during the month of February with two games remaining on the regular season. Up next for Prince George's is an away contest against Northern Virginia on Tuesday, February 13th at 5 PM.
