Owls Survive Late Push From Chesapeake, Top Skipjacks 83-82

The Prince George's Community College women's basketball team was finally able to host a basketball game in Novak Field House on Friday, December 1st as the team welcomed Chesapeake College for a 5 PM tipoff. Despite holding a lead for the entire game, a wild finish saw the Owls narrowly escape with a one-point victory, 83-82.

The Owls held a 22-point lead at one point but Chesapeake managed to crawl back and nearly stole the game from Prince George's after a desperation three with 3 seconds left pulled the Skipjacks to within one. The ensuing Owls possession resulted in a turnover in their own territory and gave Chesapeake the ball back with 2.2 seconds and a timeout to draw up one last play. The Skipjacks were unable to handle the following inbound pass as the ball fell out of bounds with 0.6 seconds to hand the game back to Prince George's. A deep pass was touched by the Owls which allowed the last half second to run and seal the narrow victory for the Owls who improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in Maryland JUCO competition on the year.

The Owls were led by Kalise Evans (Springdale, MD/Charles Flowers) who recorded her first college double-double with 21 points and 15 rebounds in the win. Jai'Den Anderson (Springdale, MD/Charles Flowers) and Amari Jones (Landover, MD/Word of Life Christian Academy) both added 16 points each with the latter grabbing 6 boards. Tamia Washington (Suitland, MD/Mt. Zion Prep) tallied 11 points off the bench and Monae Herman (Washington, D.C./Friendship Academy) added 10 points to round off the Owls double-digit scorers.

Prince George's is back in action on Wednesday, December 6th for a 5 PM home matchup against Harford Community College.
