The Prince George's Community College women's basketball team found themselves back in Novak Field House on Sunday, December 10th for a crucial Region 20 game against Butler County less than 24 hours after beating Garrett College in a physical contest. On Sunday, however, the Owls put their foot on the gas early and refused to let up as they rolled to a 51-point victory, 85-34, over the Pioneers.
The Owls nearly held Butler without a basket in the first period as they had built up a 24-4 lead after one and entered halftime allowing just 10 points and in complete control, 44-10. Jai'Den Anderson (Springdale, MD/Charles Flowers) was outscoring the entire Butler team by the break with 13 points while grabbing 6 boards and collecting 5 steals. Natavia Ross (Clinton, MD/Surrattsville) earned her first start of the year and delivered with9 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 assists through the first two quarters.
The Pioneers stepped up offensively in the final two quarters but the Owls still managed to outscore Butler, 41-24 in the second half to easily secure the 85-34 win.
Anderson earned her second double-double in as many days, finishing with 24 points, 10 rebounds. Ross finished with 16 points and 6 boards. Kalise Evans (Springdale, MD/Charles Flowers) had 14 points, 7 steals and Amari Jones (Landover, MD/Word of Life Christian Academy) picked up 12 points and 8 rebounds.
The Owls get a couple of days to prepare for their next challenge, another home game against CCBC Essex on Wednesday, December 13th at 5 PM. The Knights are currently ranked 5th among NJCAA DII programs with a 6-4 record which includes 1-0 in Maryland JUCO contests. Prince George's is ranked 11th in NJCAA DIII, entering with a 5-1 overall record and a perfect 4-0 in conference matchups.
