Lady Owls Use Strong First Half to Hold Off Late Push By Garrett

The Prince George's Community College women's basketball team survived a late comeback attempt by Garrett's Lakers on Saturday, December 9th as the Owls held on to win, 72-59, and move to 4-1 on the season which now includes a perfect 4-0 mark in Maryland JUCO games.

Leading 46-17 after two periods, the Owls looked primed to run away before foul issues early in the third quarter began to flip the script towards the Lakers as they trimmed ten points off of Prince George's lead in the third quarter. Garrett's run continued into the final period as they managed to come to within ten points, 68-58, of the Owls with 2:10 left to play but Prince George's early domination proved to be too insurmountable of a lead to overcome as the Owls closed out their fourth consecutive victory.

Prince George's was led by Amari Jones (Landover, MD/Word of Life Christian Academy) who finished with a new career-high 24 points in the win. Tamia Washington (Oxon Hill, MD/Mt. Zion Prep) had another high scoring outing off the bench for the Owls as she put up 17 points which included a 3-of-5 shooting performance from deep. Reigning DIII Player of the Week, Kalise Evans, had 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists on the day while Jai'Den Anderson (Springdale, MD/Charles Flowers) earned her first collegiate double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Anderson also dished out 6 assists and grabbed 2 steals in the win as well.

The Owls will now have to bounce back quickly before playing tomorrow at 12 noon against Region 20 DIII opponent Butler County Community College who visits Novak Field House in another home game for Prince George's. The Owls will be without their head coach Devin May against Butler, who will be serving a one-game suspension stemming from foul issues during Saturday's game against Garrett.

Spectators for Sunday's game versus Butler can purchase tickets in advance or at the door in-person for $6 each. Tickets are available only only, cash cannot be accepted.  Sunday's game will also be livestreamed on the PGCC Owls YouTube page.
