Owls Win Fourth Straight With 59-52 Victory Over Southern Maryland

The Prince George's Community College women's basketball program took to the road for their fourth game in a row on Wednesday, January 18th when the team travelled to La Plata, MD to take on Southern Maryland's Hawks.

The Owls, who just moved up one spot to #9 in the NJCAA DIII women's rankings, had their best stretch during the first quarter as they scored 22 points compared to 14 for Southern Maryland before Prince George's stumbled in the second, being outscored 13-7 to head into halftime with a slim 29-27 lead.

Despite playing with a limited roster due to injury, Prince George's managed to distance themselves from the Hawks in the third period, 14-10, before closing out the final period on top as well, 16-15 to seal the 7-point victory for the Owls.

The Owls Amari Jones (Landover, MD/Word of Life Christian Academy) had herself a career day during the win, finishing with a new career high 31 points on 50% shooting (12-24) for the evening. Teammate Jai'Den Anderson (Springdale, MD/Charles Flowers) had a bounce back game against Southern Maryland, finishing with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 steals. Anderson has scored in double figures in all but two contests during a breakout freshman campaign.

The win improves the Owls to 9-3 on the year and gives the team a week off to prepare for their first home game since December 15th when Montgomery College visits Novak Field House on Wednesday, January 24th for a 5 PM game.
