Prince George’s Women’s Basketball Falls At Home To Montgomery

Returning home to Novak Field House to host a game for the first time this month, Prince George's slow start against Montgomery College proved to be too much to overcome in the second half as the Owls fell to the Raptors, 68-45. The loss drops Prince George's to 13-5 on the year, including 7-3 in conference play.

An eight-point first quarter followed by a four-point quarter to start the game saw the Owls enter the second half down 26-12 with not much of an offensive identity at the break. Freshman RaMyah Yearwood led the Owls at the half with 6 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals.

The third quarter saw the Owls more than double their first half scoring as they began to pick up the pace offensively, putting up 16 points but were unable to slow the Raptors attack, allowing 21. With Prince George's down 47-28 entering the final ten minutes, the Owls leaned on guard Janiah Williams who responded by hitting 3-of-4 from three-point land to begin cutting into the Raptors lead. Still, Montgomery was able to utilize a deeper bench to put the Owls away 68-45.

Fielding just six players on the night, Vanessa Schwarzmann played the entire 40 minutes of the contest. She finished with 7 points and 7 rebounds. Williams picked up her 13th double-double of the season with a 16-point, 11 rebound performance while Yearwood was quick on the defensive side of the ball, picking up 4 steals to go along with her 9 points and 4 rebounds. Tori Tolson added 8 points and 13 rebounds on the day.

The Owls will host Hagerstown Community College for their next matchup on Wednesday, February 9th. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 PM.
