Lady Owls To Host Cedar Valley In Southeast District Championship On Saturday

The NJCAA Region 20 Division III Champion Prince George's Community College women's basketball team welcomes Region 5 Division III Champion Dallas College – Cedar Valley to Novak Field House on Saturday, February 26th at 12 PM in the Southeast District Championship. The winner will advance to the National Championship in Rochester, Minnesota from March 9th-12th.

Saturday's game will be a rematch of the 2020 Southeast District Championship when the Suns traveled to Largo, MD and escaped with a 63-62 win over the Owls to advance to the National Tournament as the final eighth seed. The Suns went on to upset No. 1 seed Massasoit 73-68 before losing in the semi-finals. The NJCAA will select four at-large selections for the first time in association history this year, expanding the tournament to 12 teams with seeds 1-4 receiving a first-round bye.

The Owls, who are two-time defending Region 20 winners, are looking to advance to the National Tournament for the first time since the 2014-15 season and in the first year of head coach Devin May's tenure. Prince George's entered the 2015 Tournament as the No. 8 seed, falling to the No. 1 seed and eventual National Runner-Up Roxbury in the opening round.

The Owls have exceeded expectations throughout the season, tying their highest regular season win total (15) since the 2011-12 season as well as appearing in the weekly NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball rankings since week two, finishing the season at No. 9. Cedar Valley ended the year just two spots behind the Owls at No. 11.

All Prince George's Community College students, staff, and faculty are free to enter Saturday's game with a current college ID. Prince George's County Public Schools staff and students can enter Saturday's game at no cost with a current school ID and a copy of their vaccine card.
