Lady Owls Bounce Back Against Butler County

Four different Owls finished in double-digit scoring against Butler County Community College on Sunday as the Pioneers traveled to Largo, MD to take on Prince George's for a NJCAA Region 20 Division III face-off. The Owls bounced back in big fashion after a tough loss to CCBC Essex just two days prior. Prince George's topped the visiting Pioneers 74-51 to finish the season a perfect 4-0 in Region 20 Division play.

The Owls opened the game on a 9-0 run over the first three minutes before closing out the first period in control, 21-6. The second period was the only stretch the Pioneers were able to win over the Owls as they outscored Prince George's 15-12 despite the Owls outshooting Butler (17 attempts for Prince George's and only 10 for the Pioneers). Butler was able to consistently get to the free throw line throughout the game to stay within reach as they created 21 opportunities from the stripe compared to just 8 for the Owls. Freshman Tori Tolson was the top scorer at halftime with 9 points for the Owls, adding 9 rebounds as well.

Prince George's furthered distanced themselves from the Pioneers in the second half which began with freshman Vanessa Schwarzmann catching fire from three-point land. Schwarzmann, the team's leading three-point shooter, connected on 5-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc during the third period alone, racking up 15 of her team-high 24 points as she finished the day 8-of-16 from the three. Entering the final ten minutes holding a 21-point lead with the score 59-38, Prince George's held Butler to just 13 points as the Owls closed out the contest on top, 74-51.

Tolson recorded her third straight double-double during the win with a 15-point, 15 rebound performance, earning her 10th double-double of the season. Freshman Alicia Jones recorded a double-double herself with an 11-point, 10 rebound outing.

With the win the Lady Owls have swept their Region 20 divisional opponents after having previously defeated Anne Arundel, Westmoreland, and CCAC Allegheny and will now enter the region tournament hosted by Anne Arundel Community College as the #1 seed. The tournament is scheduled to take place February 18th-20th.
