Owls Earn Another Division Win vs. Brookdale

Prince George's Community College women's basketball team found themselves getting set for tipoff in Novak Field House on Saturday afternoon, November 20th, less than 24 hours after walking off the same court following a 68-39 win over Anne Arundel Friday night. Facing Brookdale Community College on Saturday, the Owls found a way to quickly reload and recover on their way to a 62-40 victory over the Jersey Blues.

The win dropped Brookdale to 2-2 on the year while Prince George's improved to 4-1. The Owls, who are currently ranked number 13 in NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball, finish out the week 2-1 in division play. Prince George's lost their first game of the year on Tuesday to RCSJ – Gloucester before rattling off two consecutive victories against Anne Arundel and Brookdale. Anne Arundel has been receiving votes in the weekly rankings.

Saturday's game against the Jersey Blues saw the Owls jump open up on a 9-0 run but failed to keep the momentum as they later entered halftime trailing 23-22. Brookdale would only lead by as many as 2 points as the Owls flipped a switch at halftime, shutting down the visiting attack as they allowed just 17 points the remainder of the game. The Owls offense caught fire in the final 10 minutes as they outpaced Brookdale 26-10 to secure a 62-40 victory. The Owls hit 5 of 11 shots from beyond the arc in the last 10 minutes while allowing the Jersey Blues to shoot only 2 of 11 from the floor for the entire period.

Freshman Vanessa Schwarzmann finished as the game's leading scorer with 21 points. Fellow freshman Janiah Williams continued her dominance on both sides of the ball as she poured in 18 points herself while grabbing 18 rebounds as well, notching her fifth consecutive game with a double-double. Tori Tolson recorded recorded her second double-double of the year with 12 points and 14 boards for the Owls in the win.

Prince George's will get some well-deserved rest around the holidays before returning to action on December 1st at CCBC Catonsville.
