#10 Ranked Women’s Basketball Gets Back On Track With Win Over Hagerstown

The Prince George's Community College Women's Basketball team was back in Novak Field House on Wednesday, February 9th to host Hagerstown Community College for the Owls fourth straight Maryland JUCO contest. Despite trailing 23-22 at halftime and having to finish the game with only four players due to foul trouble, the Owls prevailed and come out with a 62-54 victory. The win lifted Prince George's record to 14-5 on the year, including 8-3 in conference play. The Hawks dropped to 4-15, 4-5.

Entering the game with only six girls, the Owls quickly found themselves in foul trouble with 9 team fouls at halftime. Freshman Janiah Williams was all over the court in the first half as she collected 7 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks at the break. The Hawks were able to keep within reach of the Owls attack by converting 6-of-7 attempts from the free throw line before they went on an 8-1 run which was capitalized by a jumper at the buzzer from Alexandra Henderson to close out the second quarter in front 23-22.

Hagerstown further distanced themselves as they outscored the Owls 19-16 in the third quarter to take a 42-38 lead. It appeared the Owls were running out of steam down the stretch as fouls continued to mount before freshman Vanessa Schwarzmann made three consecutive three-pointers during a 14-1 run which put Prince George's in control 60-47 with 1:39 left. Tori Tolson fouled out at the 2:08 mark after Williams had already fouled out at the 2:35 mark, leaving the Owls with only four on the floor during part of their breakaway run. The Owls managed to hold the Hawks in check the rest of the way while playing a man down to escape with a 62-54 win.

Schwarzmann finished as the game's leading scorer with 22 points, finishing 6-of-19 from three-point land, just missing out on her third double-double of the season as she grabbed 9 boards. Both Tolson (12 points, 12 rebounds) and Williams (10 points, 10rebounds) picked up double-doubles during the win.

Prince George's returns home for the Owls final regular season game on Saturday, February 12th against CCBC Catonsville. Tipoff is set for 2 PM.
