Men’s Basketball Splits in Weekend Road Trip

The Owls men's basketball team went 1-1 over the weekend after splitting their matchups against Erie Community College and Monroe Community College at the Monroe Classic in Rochester, New York. Prince George's survived an overtime thriller against Erie, 84-81 on Saturday before falling to tournament host Monroe, 65-52 on Sunday.

The Owls saw their 14-point lead slowly decrease in the second half vs. Erie before the Kats knocked down a pair of free throws with two seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. Prince George's quickly went down by five in the extra period before an 8-0 run behind two Tyler Donald three-pointers later put them up by four with two minutes to go. Erie had one last chance to force a second overtime with a tying three-point attempt at the buzzer, but it came up short to secure the victory for Prince George's.

Freshman Lynn King III led the Owls with 26 points and grabbed 4 steals on the day. Donald poured in 25 points in 32 minutes off the bench which was highlighted by his 5-of-8 performance from beyond the arc. The Owls collectively shot 50% from the floor in the victory while holding Erie to just 30%.

Sunday's matchup pitted the Owls against the 14th ranked DII program, Monroe Community College in the Tribunes home gym. Down ten at halftime, the Owls just couldn't get the lid off the basket on a poor shooting day from all three levels as Monroe grew their lead to as many as 16 at one point in the second half to hand Prince George's their first loss of the year. Jailin Landis was the only Owl to score double-digit points for Prince George's in the defeat, finishing with 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.

The loss drops the Owls to 3-1 on the season before their next matchup against Anne Arundel back in Largo on Tuesday, November 19th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 PM.
