Men’s Basketball Closes Out Season With 4-0 Week in Novak Field House

The Prince George's Community College men's basketball team wrapped up their 2024-25 season over the weekend, defeating Community College of Beaver County on Saturday, 93-65, before taking down Westmoreland County less than 24 hours later, 78-65. The Owls finish the season 14-10 overall and 6-7 in Region 20 Division II play, just missing out on qualifying for the upcoming Region Tournament which features the top 8 teams in region games.

Saturday's victory against Beaver's Titans was controlled from the opening tip by Prince George's as they entered halftime with a 14-point lead, 38-24. The Owls shot above 52% from both the floor and from deep in the second half as they erupted for 55 points en route to the 28-point win. Freshman Tyler Donald scored 20 of his career-high 23 points in the second half alone while hitting seven threes on the day. Sophomore Manuel Coronado had himself another perfect day as he went 6-for-6 from the floor to finish with 13 points and 6 rebounds in the win.

Sunday's matchup proved to be much more competitive for Prince George's. The Owls, who were playing their fourth game in just six days entered halftime against Westmoreland with a 12-point lead (37-25). The Wolfpack continued to claw back in the second half, trimming the Owls lead to as little as 3 points, 53-50, at the 10:15 mark and again at 6:24, 61-58. The second time the Owls responded with an 11-2 run to put the game out of reach as time ticked away.

Sophomore Teny Gakdeng led Prince George's in scoring during Sunday's win with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor to go along with 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. Freshman Willie Rivera Jr. added 18 points in 35 minutes off the bench while Jailin Landis finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds.

Despite not making the postseason, Prince George's finished the season strong as they closed out the year on a 4-game winning streak at home which began with an upset over nationally ranked Howard Community College earlier in the week to head into the offseason with positive momentum. With a roster that includes eight sophomores, it won't be long before Head Coach Terrell Harris and staff start looking forward to building their 2025-26 roster as they aim to get back into the playoffs next season.
