Men’s Basketball Defeats Allegany at Home

The Prince George's Community College men's basketball team picked up another win on Thursday evening, defeating Allegany College of Maryland, 75-71. The win improved the Owls record to 12-10 while Allegany's Trojans dropped to 11-16 on the season.

For the second time this week inside Novak Field House, Prince George's entered halftime trailing in a close matchup, 33-30 and recovered to complete the comeback in the second half. Thursday's win had more drama down the stretch compared to Tuesday's upset victory over nationally ranked Howard as Allegany was given an opportunity at a second chance with under ten seconds to go when a foul was called on Prince George's. The Trojans split their final free throw attempts as the Owls Jailin Landis raised up to grab the game-sealing rebound with only seconds left to deny Allegany of their own comeback attempt.

The Owls were led in scoring by freshman Willie Rivera Jr. who finished with 16 points (4-of-8 3PT) and 7 assists. Landis finished with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals on a busy day for the sophomore. Teammates Casheus Covington and Lynn King III both added 10 points apiece to round out the top scorers from the Owls victory.

The Owls will stay put for their final two games of the season this weekend as they host Community College of Beaver County and Westmoreland County Community College on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Saturday's tip-off is scheduled for 3 PM and Sunday is 12 noon.
