Prince George's Women's Basketball Comeback Attempt Falls Short To Hagerstown, 70-66

LARGO, Md. – Marche Sisco (Fort Washington, Md./Friendly) nearly powered a comeback after scoring 16 of her 26 points in the fourth quarter and tie the game for Prince George's Community College in a 70-66 loss to Hagerstown Community College in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) women's basketball action on Wednesday. 

Trailing 58-50 with 5:40 left in the final frame, Sisco scored seven points to help tie the game at 59 with 3:17 remaining. After Hagerstown scored the next seven points to take a 66-59 edge, Misty Harewood (Oxon Hills, Md./Potomac) hit two from the charity toss and Nehemie Vilain (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) drained a trey at 1:03 to cut the margin to 66-64. The two teams traded baskets with Sisco scoring for the Owls, but Hagerstown scored the final two points of the game to end the Largo team's comeback attempt.

Sisco finished the game 10-for-22 and 5 of 7 from the free throw to finish with her third-best point total of the season that includes two 30-point performances and another 20-point game. The freshman added seven assists, five steals and three rebounds. Sisco has scored double figures in five of the seven games this season and leads the team with 20.9 points per game.. 

Vilain posted nine points and seven rebounds while Harewood added four points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Imani Andrews (Suitland, Md./Crossland) tallied a career-high eight points and eight rebounds while Aja Hale (Seat Pleasant, Md./Gwynn Park) chipped in seven points and eight caroms on the night.

Sisco gave the Owls a 2-0 lead and Gia Thomas (Riverdale, Md./Fairmont Heights) handed the team a 4-2 lead before Harewood increased the margin to 5-2. Hale gave Prince George's a 7-4 lead with 4:57 left in the first quarter, but the Hawks scored the final seven points of the quarter to take an 11-7 lead. 

The Owls used a 10-5 run to open the second quarter to grab a 17-16 edge after an Andrews layup with 7:02 on the clock. Andrews and Vilain each had four points in this span. After Hagerstown took a 25-19 margin, Quatazia Johnson (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) scored four-straight points and Andrews hit a jumper to tie the game at 25. After the home team opened the period scoring 10 of 15, the visitors closed the half on a 10-5 run to take a 35-30 advantage going into the locker room.

Hagerstown outscored the Owls 15-11 in the third quarter to extend its lead to 50-41. Prince George's made a valiant comeback to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but came up short in the second meeting against Hagerstown this season. 

The Owls continue its five-game homestand on Tuesday against Northern Virginia Community College. Game time is 5 p.m. and can be seen on PGCC TV.
