Prince George's Women's Basketball Falls To SUNY Sullivan, 52-40

LARGO, Md. – The Prince George's Community College comeback fell short against SUNY Sullivan 52-40 in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) women's basketball action on Sunday.

Marisse Chop (Cameroon/PSS Bafort) paced the Owls (1-5) with a career-high 11 points, posting most of her points from the charity stripe after hitting 5 of 7 from the line to finish with her first career 10-point performance. She added seven rebounds, four steals and two assists in her first collegiate start.

Marche Sisco (Fort Washington, Md./Friendly) added nine points, six steals and four rebounds. Sisco has reached double figures in four of the six games this season and is averaging 20.0 points per game on the year.

Imani Andrews (Suitland, Md./Crossland) registered six points and seven rebounds in her first game at Novak Field House while Quatazia Johnson (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) added six points on the day.

Trailing 7-4 in the first quarter, Prince George's used a 6-0 run to take a 10-7 lead thanks to a jumper by Andrews, two free throws each from Johnson and Kayla Ball (Washington, D.C./Paul Laurence Dunbar) with 4:19 left. The Generals tied the game at 12 before Sisco hit a charity toss and Chop drained a jumper with 2:18 on the clock for a 15-12 advantage. SUNY Sullivan scored the final four points to take a 16-15 edge after the first quarter.

Andrews tied the game at 16 on a free throw with 7:50 left in the second quarter, but SUNY Sullivan scored 13 of the final 15 points in the period to take a 29-18 lead going into the locker room.

Thanks to a 16-9 third quarter the Generals extended its margin to 45-27, but the Largo program did not give up and put up a fight in the final frame.

Prince George's scored the eight of the first 10 points in the fourth quarter thanks to three points Sisco and two from Chop and Johnson while Daisha Franklin (Washington, D.C./Parkdale) added a free throw to cut the deficit to 47-35 midway through the stanza. The Owls could get no closer the rest of the way with Sisco nailing a triple with 14 seconds left to set the final score at 52-40.  

Prince George's continues its seven-game homestand against Hagerstown Community College after the Thanksgiving holiday on Wednesday, November 28. Game time is 5 p.m.
