Yates' Career Night Powers Prince George's Women's Basketball To Victory Over Howard

LARGO, Md. – Imani Yates (Seat Pleasant, Md./Friendship Collegiate) scored a career-high 29 points to propel Prince George's Community College past Howard Community College 77-29 in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) women's basketball action on Wednesday.

Yates notched her fourth 20-point game of the season and surpassed her previous career high by five points. The freshman put the icing on the cake for her career night by hitting a buzzer beater heave from half court from half court at the end of the game. She also added 10 boards for her third double-double of the season and also registered six steals, two assists and one block on the night.

Gina Seifert (Owings, Md./Northern) stuffed the stat sheet with 24 points, 19 rebounds, five assists, four steals and four blocks. It was the sophomore's ninth 20-point game of the season and 10th of her career. She also notched her 12th double-double of the season and 22nd of her career while grabbing the second-most rebounds in her career.

Myanna Strong (Upper Marlboro, Md./Largo) added 15 points, five steals, four assists, five rebounds and three steals. Strong has reached double figures for the seventh time this season and eighth of her career.

Gia Thomas (Riverdale, Md./Fairmont Heights) hauled in a career-high 13 rebounds while Aja Ceesay (Fajara, Gambia/Gambia Methodist) recorded double digits in rebounds for the second-straight game after hauling in 11 rebounds on Wednesday.

Thanks to 11 points combined from Yates and Seifert, the Owls took a 19-1 lead after one quarter. The duo then scored 11 of the 12 points in the second quarter for the Largo program to take a 31-3 lead going into the locker room.

In the third quarter, it was Yates and Strong combining for 19 points to help Prince George's extend its advantage to 56-12. Yates, Strong and Seifert posted all 21 points in the fourth quarter to earn the 77-29 victory for the Owls.

Prince George's returns to action on Monday at Northern Virginia. Game time is 5 p.m.
