opening tip…
 After Tuesday's home game against CC of Beaver County was cancelled, Prince George's returns to the court for the first time since its victory against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6. The Owls start a three-game road trip at Chesapeake on Thursday. The Largo program defeated the Skipjacks last season at Novak Field House.

last time out… For the third time this season sophomore Gina Seifert posted a career high in points and registered a double-double in front of the Novak Field House faithful to lead Prince George's Community College to a victory. Seifert registered 30 points and 16 rebounds to power the Owls past CCBC Catonsville 76-63 on Alumni Appreciation Dec. 6. Seifert recorded her first career 30-point performance after connecting on 13 of 24 from the floor and 4 of 4 the free throw line. The sophomore has established a new career high or matched her personal best three times at home this season after scoring a then career-best 25 points against Cumberland County on Nov. 1 and against Allegany College of Maryland on Nov. 15. She also hauled in 16 rebounds in the game to register eighth double-double of the season and the sixth time she has recorded at least 16 caroms in a contest. Seifert is averaging 20.8 points and 13.7 rebounds per game in six contests at Novak Field House this season. Imani Yates notched her second double-double of the season for the Owls with 16 points and 10 rebounds while adding six assists, five steals and one block. Myanna Strong registered 13 points, seven assists, five blocks and three steals in the winning effort.

next time on the hardwood… Prince George's closes out the 2017 portion of its schedule at Montgomery on Dec. 20. The Owls, who will play eight of its last 11 regular season games on the road, return to Novak Field House on Jan. 10 against Baltimore City.

national recognition for seifert… Gina Seifert was named the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Nov. 21. Seifert, a sophomore forward, posted three 20-point performances and at least 16 rebounds in the three games while averaging 23.3 points, 17.3 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 2.3 blocks and 1.6 assists per game in the week. She started her week by matching her career high with 25 points along with 16 rebounds against Allegany College of Maryland on Nov. 15. She then posted 22 points and 18 rebounds against Butler County Community College on Nov. 17 and 23 points and 18 rebounds against Westmoreland County Community College on Nov. 18. She shot 48.0 percent (24-for-50) from the floor and 81.5 percent (22-for-27) from the free throw line while also tallying nine steals, seven blocks and five assists in the three games.

having a career day… Sophomore Gina Seifert has notched a career-high three times this season and re-established her career high again with a 30-point outburst against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6. The sophomore has posted a career-high three times this season at Novak Field House. Freshman Imani Yates posted a career-high 24 points against Butler County on Nov. 17 while freshman Rickkia Jackson notched a career-high 11 points against Butler County. Jackson then hauled in a career-best 14 boards against Westmoreland on Nov. 18. Sophomore Myanna Strong led the way for the Owls against Pennsylvania Highlands on Nov. 8 with a career-high 18 points. Freshmen Camry Gantt (10 points) and Daja Latten (8 points, 13 rebounds) both recorded career highs against Potomac State on Dec. 2.

the point is double figures… Sophomore Gina Seifert has posted double figures in points 10 times this season and 26 times in her career. Sophomore Myanna Strong has seven 10+ point games in her career including five times this season while freshman Imani Yates has reached double figures in points six times this campaign. Freshmen Camry Gantt and Rickkia Jackson each have a 10-point game to their credit.

20-20 vision…
 Sophomore Gina Seifert has six 20-point performances and a 30-point performance in her career, including four this season. Freshman Imani Yates joined the club with her career-high 24 points against Butler County on Nov. 17 and has accomplished the feat twice this season.

on the boards… Sophomore Gina Seifert has reached double figures in rebounds 23 times in her career including eight times in 2017-18. Freshman Rickkia Jackson has four 10+ rebound game this season. Freshman Imani Yates has two 10+ rebound games and freshman Daja Latten has one double-digit rebound game this season.

the word on the skipjacks…Chesapeake comes into the contest 6-5 overall and 2-3 in Maryland JUCO action after defeating CCBC Catonsville on Tuesday

one seifert to rule them all… After playing with her sister Lisa Seifert last season, sophomore Gina Seifert returns in 2017-18 to Prince George's with Lisa now at Salisbury University. The sophomore ranked second on the team with 11.0 points and a team-best 9.4 rebounds per game last season. She has posted five 20-point performances, a 30-point tilt and 25 games with at least 10 points in her two-year career. The sophomore has 23 double-figure rebound performances and 18 double-doubles in her career. In the classroom, Gina Seifert was a 4.0 student last year to earn NJCAA All-Academic first team honors. Seifert is the third of three siblings to play at Prince George's Community College. Along with Lisa, her older brother Stevie was a member of the 2014 NJCAA World Series Owls baseball team. Her mother Teresa has been a professor for 32 years in Largo, was once the women's basketball head coach and was just named the Owls new softball head coach in the fall.

 Head coach Tiona Harris has added freshman Camry GanttDaja LattenRickkia Jackson, Giovanni Thomas and Imani Yates to the team in 2016-17.

that's gold, jerry, gold…
 Prince George's is celebrating its 50th Anniversary of Prince George's Athletics in 2017-18. Prince George's unveiled gold uniforms for men's soccer against Cecil on Sept. 15 as part of the 50th Anniversary of Prince George's Athletics, A Celebration of the Past, Present, And Future. The men's and women's basketball teams unveiled their gold jerseys for the doubleheader against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6 and will be wearing them for select games the rest of the season.

hall of fame… Prince George's will be holding its inaugural Hall of Fame as part of the 50th Anniversary celebration. Nominations are currently being accepted until Dec. 15 by going to www.pgccowls.com/halloffame.

hosting maryland juco tournament… Prince George's will be hosting the Maryland JUCO Tournament for both men's and women's basketball on Feb. 23-25.

women's basketball tradition…
 The women's basketball team has won the Maryland JUCO Tournament seven times (1973-74, 1974-75, 1977-78, 1978-79, 1985-86, 1988-89 and 2000-01) and the NJCAA Region XX title four times (1974-75, 1988-89, 2005-06 and 2015-16).

about the coach… Head coach Tiona Harris, a former women's basketball standout at Prince George's Community College, begins her seventh season as head coach of the Owls. She guided the Owls to the 2014-15 NJCAA Region XX Division III title and a trip to the national tournament.
