Prince George's Women's Basketball Falls To Montgomery

ROCKVILLE, Md. – Prince George's Community College falls 81-58 to Montgomery in National Junior College Athletic Conference (NJCAA) Division III Region XX and Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) women's basketball action on Wednesday.

Gina Seifert (Owings, Md./Northern), who was named the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Player of the Week earlier on Wednesday for the second time this season, posted 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Owls (4-6, 2-3 MD JUCO). The sophomore shot 7-for-13 from the field and 7-8 from the free throw line to register her seventh game this season with at least 20 points. She also registered her 10th double-double this season. In the four games in the month of December, Seifert is averaging 25.0 points and 16.3 rebounds per game. She also added four blocks, three steals and three assists on the night.

Imani Yates (Seat Pleasant, Md./Friendship Collegiate) posted 13 points, eight rebounds, three steals, three blocks and two assists while Camry Gantt (Landover, Md./Fairmont Heights) registered a career-high 12 points. 

Trailing 11-8 in the first quarter, the Owls closed the first quarter on a 6-0 run in the final 67 seconds to take a 14-11 lead. Seifert started the spurt with two free throws at 1:07 before Yates scored in the lane with 51 seconds left and Daja Latten (Washington, D.C./Cardozo Education Campus) nailed a jumper with 18 ticks left for a three-point lead after one quarter.

The two teams traded baskets twice to start the second quarter, but after Yates scored off the glass to give the Largo program an 18-15 lead with 9:18 left the Raptors rolled off the next 14 points en route to a 31-20 lead going into the locker room.

Sparked by eight points by Gantt, Prince George's opened the third quarter with a 19-11 run to cut the margin to 42-39 with 3:10 left in the stanza. Montgomery then closed the period on a 12-2 spurt to take a 54-41 advantage after three quarters. The Raptors then registered 27 of the 44 points in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.

Prince George's returns to action after the New Year at Anne Arundel on Jan. 5. Tipoff is 5 p.m.
