Prince George's Women's Basketball Edged By Potomac State

LARGO, Md. – Prince George's Community College falls 62-55 to Potomac State College in women's basketball action on Saturday.

Gina Seifert (Owings, Md./Northern) paced the Owls (4-5) with 19 points, 17 rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocks. The sophomore has scored double figures in all nine games this season and has grabbed at least 16 rebounds five times this season including in four of her last five tilts.

Imani Yates (Seat Pleasant, Md./Friendship Collegiate) narrowly missed her second double-double of the season, finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds Camry Gantt (Landover, Md./Fairmont Heights) notched a career-high 10 points. Daja Latten (Washington, D.C./Cardozo Education Campus) narrowly missed a double-double after posting career highs with eight points and 13 rebounds in the loss.

In the first quarter and the game tied at 13, Yates made the first of two free throws with 32 seconds left and then missed the second only to see Latten come up with the rebound and the put back for a 16-13 lead. The Owls held a 16-14 lead after one quarter.

Prince George's extend the lead to 27-17 after a Myanna Strong (Upper Marlboro, Md./Largo) triple at 6:35 in the second quarter. The Largo program started the period on an 11-3 run. Seifert powered the run with seven points. The Owls grabbed a 37-25 advantage after a Gantt jumper with 39 ticks remaining and went into the intermission with a 37-27 lead.

Potomac State used a 14-7 third quarter to cut the margin to 44-41 going into the final quarter.

The Largo program did its best to maintain the lead. Seifert gave the squad a 52-45 edge after a pair of charity tosses with 5:55 on the clock and Yates knocked down a big trey with 4:13 on the clock to maintain a five-point edge. The Catamounts then scored the final 12 points of the game to earn the victory.

Prince George's returns to action on Wednesday against CCBC Catonsville. Tipoff is 5 p.m. It will be Alumni Appreciation Night and the squad will unveil its 50th Anniversary gold jerseys at the game.
