Prince George's Men's Soccer Takes Regular Season Finale Thanks To Edwin Claros' Game-Winner In 85th Minute Against CCBC Catonsville

BALTIMORE, Md. – Edwin Claros (Adelphi, Md./High Point) posted two goals including the game-winner in the 85th minute to lift Prince George's Community College past CCBC Catonsville in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) men's soccer action on Tuesday.
After the two teams went into the intermission at a 1-all standstill, Edwin Claros took a feed from William Chavez (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) and found the back of the net in the 58th minute for a 2-1 edge. The Cardinals tied the game at 2 in the 72nd minute and then Edwin Claros scored the decisive tally off a feeder from Roshawn Panton (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) with 15 minutes left in the match to propel the Owls (12-3-0, 9-3-0 MD JUCO) to the regular season finale victory.
Edwin Claros, who has posted six goals in his last two contests, leads the team with 19 goals and 17 assists for 58 points and now has 36 goals and 26 assists for 98 points in his two seasons in Largo.
Panton also dished out an assist on Cristian Benavides (Laurel, Md./Overseas) score in the first half to give Prince George's a 1-0 edge. Panton also handed out the assist on the game-winner to Edwin Claros and now has 21 goals and eight assists for 50 points on the season. It was the second time this season that Panton has given out an assist on an Edwin Claros score while the sophomore has registered 10 of his 17 assists on a Panton goal.
Benavides has five goals and six assists for 16 points on the year while Chavez has recorded a marker and seven assists for eight points in 2017.
Jonathan Claros (Adelphi, Md./High Point) made four saves in the winning effort.
Prince George's ends the regular season with a 12-3-0 record and a 9-3-0 mark in league play. The Owls will look to defend its National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Region XX Tournament when the tournament starts on Oct. 26. The tournament will be played at Anne Arundel Community College and seeding will be announced next week.
