Strong Second Half Drives Prince George's Men's Soccer Past Harford, 3-1

LARGO, Md. – Edwin Claros (Adelphi, Md./High Point), Elmer Hernandez (College Park, Md./Parkdale) and Roshawn Panton (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) each found the back of the net to power Prince George's Community College past Harford Community College 3-1 in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) men's soccer action on Tuesday.

Just like in the 3-1 win on Sunday against Nassau, Edwin Claros had a hand in the first two Owls (2-0-0, 1-0-0 MD JUCO) goals on Tuesday night. The sophomore found the back of the twine in the 18th minute for his third goal of the season and then dished out an assist on the game-winner in the 67th minute. The sophomore has three goals and one assist for seven points in two matches and 20 tallies and 10 assists for 50 points in his Prince George's career.

Hernandez notched his first career marker when he drilled in a deflection in the 67th minute to give the Owls the lead they would not relinquish. The sophomore now has a goal and two assists in his two seasons in Largo.

For the second time in as many games, Panton sealed the victory with a goal late in the match. After scoring in the 76th minute against Nassau, the freshman notched his second goal of the season in the 82nd minute on Tuesday.

Jonathan Claros (Adelphi, Md./High Point) made seven saves for Prince George's while William Chavez (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) and El Sherif (Capital Heights, Md./Central) each recorded an assist in the winning effort.

Antonio Savi notched the Fighting Owls (3-1-1, 0-1-1 MD JUCO) lone goal on the night and Michael Nelson posted four saves in the loss.

In a battle of the Owls, the two teams battled to a 1-all standstill through 45 minutes and then had the match stopped for a lightning delay. When the rain and lightning allowed play to resume it was the Prince George's Owls that had the fight in them after scoring two goals in the second stanza to earn the victory in the squad's home and MD JUCO openers.

With the game in a 1-all standstill for nearly 45 minutes, Elmer Hernandez drilled the game-winning shot from the top of the box on a Claros deflection that found its way to Hernandez at the 66:04 mark.

Panton then sealed the Largo program's second victory when he took a feed from Sherif on the left side and beat the keeper at the 81:44 mark for a 3-1 advantage.

Harford had five shots after Savi tied the game at 1, but did not register a shot after Hernandez gave the Owls the lead for good in the 67th minute.

Claros gave Prince George's the early lead when he twinkled the twine off a feed from Chavez at 17:05 for a 1-0 edge.

After a foul right outside of the box, Savi tied the game at 1 on a free kick at 21:41. The match would remain tied into the second half until the Owls scored twice to earn the win and end the Fighting Owls four-game unbeaten streak to start the season.

Prince George's returns to action on Friday at CCBC Essex. Match time is 7 p.m.
