Prince George's Men's Soccer Is "Gold, Jerry! Gold!" In Win Against Cecil

LARGO, Md. – Edwin Claros (Adelphi, Md./High Point), Erick Colindres (Hyattsville, Md./Parkdale) and Roshawn Panton (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) each registered multi-goal performances to power eighth-ranked Prince George's Community College past Cecil College 9-0 in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) men's soccer action on Friday.

The Owls unveiled a commemorative gold jersey with the letters PGCC across the chest in recognition of the 50th Anniversary of Prince George's Athletics, A Celebration of the Past, Present and Future. The men's soccer team will wear the gold jerseys on several occasions for the rest of the season while men's and women's basketball and baseball will also have gold jerseys for their seasons.

Edwin Claros dished out an assist on Prince George's (4-1-0, 3-1-0 MD JUCO) first two goals of the evening in the second and sixth minutes. The sophomore then posted goals in the 59th and 63rd minutes to finish with two tallies and two helpers. Edwin Claros leads the team with eight goals and four assists for 20 points, including registering five goals and three assists in the two matches this week.

Colindres notched his first collegiate goal on the second feeder by Edwin Claros and then dished out helpers in the 18th, 47th and 50th minutes. He then capped the win with the last score of the night in the 65th minute to end the night with two goals and three assists.

Panton notched his second-straight hat trick after twinkling the twine in the second, 18th and 47th minutes. The freshman is tied with Edwin Claros for the team-lead in points with 20, but leads the team with nine goals along with two assists on the year.

Cristain Benavides (Laurel, Md./Overseas) registered a goal and an assist after handing out an assist in the 40th minute while scoring a tally in the 50th minute. Brian Ngoh (Fort Washington, Md/Friendly) headed in his first career tally in the 40th minute.

Jonathan Claros (Adelphi, Md./High Point) and Saul Sosa (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dr. Henry Wise) shared the shutout in the win. The Seahawks (1-6-0, 1-3-0 MD JUCO) only shot on the night way wide right in the first half.

The Owls jumped out to a 4-0 lead at the break thanks to two goals from Panton and markers by Colindres and Ngoh before Edwin Claros posted a pair of tallies along with goals by Panton, Benavides and Colindres to post a 9-0 victory.

Prince George's returns to action on Tuesday when the squad continues its four-game homestand against Hagerstown. Match time is 6 p.m.
