#7 Women’s Basketball Rolls To 91-49 Win On The Road At RCSJ Cumberland
The 7th ranked Prince George's Community College women's basketball team hit the road for the Owls first challenge outside of Novak Field House on Thursday, November 17th, traveling to Vineland, New Jersey to take on Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ) Cumberland. The Owls set a new season high in scoring en route to a 91-49 victory in the divisional matchup.
The Owls didn't skip a beat as they came out firing once again. Alicia Jones scored the first basket of the game for Prince George's and the team never looked back as they hold on to the lead for the remainder of the evening. Scoring 21, 14, 23, and 33 points across four quarters, the Owls gave the Dukes little chance to mount any comeback with Prince George's producing in each phase of the game.
The Owls 33-point fourth quarter was the second highest point total in one quarter of action under coach Devin May since his squad scored 36 in one period versus Allegany College of Maryland last season in Prince George's 12th game of the season. Three Owls ended with double-digit scoring; reigning Division 3 Player of the Week Vanessa Schwarzmann (23), Tori Tolson (20), and Maranda Carey (16). Carey picked up a double-double with 14 rebounds while teammate Janiah Williams collected 19 boards to lead the team in rebounds.
The Lady Owls are also setting the tone on defense early this season, holding opponents to an average of 45.3 point per game allowed which is good for 7th in the nation after three games for Prince George's. It shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that this year's team is clicking this well so early in the season after returning six student athletes from last year's roster.
The Owls have another chance on the road against a divisional opponent tomorrow, November 19th when Prince George's travels to Butler, PA to take on Butler County in their first Region 20 challenge of the year. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 pm. Viewers can follow along with a live stream provided by Butler.
