Williams and Schwarzmann Earn All-American Honors

Prince George's women's basketball standouts Janiah Williams (Washington D.C.) and Vanessa Schwarzmann (Upper Marlboro, MD) were both named as members of the 2022-23 NJCAA All-American teams as announced by the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Committee on Wednesday, April 4th.

Schwarzmann earned her first nod as an All-American as she was named an Honorable Mention selection for her sophomore campaign in which she finished third in the nation in made three-pointers with 88 to help her lead the Owls in scoring with 344 points. She also set single-game team and personal career highs this year with 42 points scored against Camden County on November 10th which earned her Player of the Week honors in just the second week of the season. Schwarzmann hopes to continue to play at the next level and has received attention from several four-year institutions, most recently being Division I Hampton University in Hampton, VA.

While Schwarzmann dominated offensively for the Owls this past year, it's been Williams who has anchored the Owls defense since arriving in Largo and for her efforts was selected as a Second Team All-American for the second straight year. Williams' two-time selection is the first for Prince George's since Alex Morales was chosen as an Honorable Mention in 2016-17 and later Second-Team in 2018-19.

Williams was a constant rebounder for Prince George's as she racked up 236 boards which placed her in the top-30 in the nation. Williams particularly excelled in blocking shots this year while using her 6-foot frame to her advantage as she picked up 66 swats which was good for 9th in the country. She would often turn her defense into her own offense in transition which allowed her to finish the year averaging a double-double with 11.5 points per game to go along with 10.7 rebounds a game.

The Williams and Schwarzmann duo has been a driving force behind the Owls massive success the past two years which included back-to-back Region 20 Titles, District Championships, and trips to the National Championship while posting an overall record of 33-16, good for a.673 win percentage.
