Owls Fall Short in Region Semi-Finals vs. Frederick

The Prince George's Community College men's soccer team saw their season come to an end on Wednesday, October 30th versus Frederick Community College in the Region 20 DII semi-finals hosted by Anne Arundel Community College. Still tied 2-2 after 90 minutes and two periods of overtime, the Owls eventually came up short in penalty kicks, falling to the Cougars in a shootout, 4-3.

#3 Frederick struck first in Wednesday's matchup, connecting on a header off a corner kick less than a full minute into the game, putting the #2 seeded Owls in an early deficit. The Cougars added a second goal early in the second half off a penalty kick.

Prince George's finally got on the board in the 76th when Osenose Ibhagui scored on an assist by Perez Hengoue. Jerson Chirino added the equalizer with under 8 minutes to play when he found a bouncing ball inside the box and fired it beyond the diving reach of the Cougars keeper and send the game into overtime.

The Owls appeared to be in control throughout both extra periods but neither team was able to score which forced penalty kicks. The Owls were quickly down 3-1 through the first three attempts before Frederick missed on their fourth to set up a dramatic finish. Prince George's Messi Morales connected on the team's fifth and final attempt, but the Cougars managed to get past the Owls Jairo Caceres on their last try to seal the 4-3 shootout loss for Prince George's.

Despite the disappointing finish the Owls enjoyed a successful season in their first-year return to the division II ranks. Prince George's ends the year with a 9-2-4 overall record and appear to have a bright future moving ahead as a contender within the region.
