Another home game for the Prince George's Community College men's soccer team, and another pair of hat tricks for coach Akinmboni's Owls resulted in a dominant 8-1-win over Carroll Community College on Tuesday evening, September 3rd.
Coming off a 4-0 loss on the road to #4 ranked CCBC Essex, the Owls were eager to return to their home pitch and refocus following the setback. Prince George's did just that, scoring within the first 90 seconds when Zico Tesheira sent one past the Lynx keeper to take the lead. Carroll fought back with a strong header off a corner kick which fired past the Owls keeper Jairo Caceres to tie the score at one apiece with over 80 minutes left to play.
Tesheira, however, was far from finished for the day as he recorded his fifth and sixth goals just three games into the season in the 20th and 43rd minute, respectively, to send the Owls into halftime on top, 3-1.
The second half was controlled by Prince George's from start to finish as they tacked on five additional goals. Sophomore Muhammad Sallah opened the scoring with his first goal of the year in the 54th minute followed by Tesheira's fourth of the day to make it 5-1 in the 69th. Sallah found the back of the net again in both the 73rd and 87th to earn his own hat trick and make it 7-1 with time winding down. With under 20 seconds remaining the Owls keeper, Caceres, made a deep clearing kick from his own 18-yard box which managed to find its way to a striking Leonardo Chicas who caught the Lynx defense napping with time ticking away. Chicas quickly found himself in a one-on-one breakaway which he capitalized on, giving Caceres a rare assist from the goalkeeper position with just one second remaining.
The win improved the Owls record to 2-1 on the season ahead of their next matchup, another home contest on Thursday, September 5th versus Frederick Community College at 5 PM.
