Cougars Claw Past Owls to Reach NJCAA Region 20 Final!
The FCC Cougars men's soccer team advanced to the NJCAA Region 20 DII Championship Final with a thrilling 2-2 (4-3 in PKs) victory over Prince George's Community College in the Semifinal Wednesday night!
Starting strong and quickly, Cougars' captain Rashid Alshrouki opened the scoring in under a minute, with an assist from Iker Alvarenga. The Cougars maintained their momentum as Alvarenga netted a second goal early in the second half off a penalty kick, giving Frederick a 2-0 lead. However, Prince George's responded with two late goals to tie it up, forcing extra time and eventually a penalty shootout.
In the shootout, FCC held their nerve, ultimately securing the win 4-3, with clutch penalties from Alexandro Angulo Moreno, Alvarenga, Elias Irons, and Nikolas Gusman. Goalie Eric Simonson's came up with two big saves that kept the Cougars in the lead throughout the shootout.
