Owls Top Harrisburg, Advance To District Semis

The Prince George's Community College men's soccer team took care of business at home on Saturday, October 21st, securing a 6-0 win over Harrisburg Area Community College in the first round of the East B District Tournament. The Owls entered as the host team after getting the #3 seed while Harrisburg entered at #6.

Playing through windy conditions, the Owls took a while to get going offensively as they managed just one score in the first half, a solo goal from Francis Ogbankwa in the 36th minute to break the tie. Following halftime which included a recognition of the teams seven sophomores (Emmanuel Nyam, Bilal Odeh, Francis Ogbankwa, Oluwafolayemi Ojo, Gabriel Tello Perea, Anderson Umana, and Anibal Villatoro-Giron), Prince George's found their rhythm which also coincided with playing with the wind at their backs. The Owls exploded for five second half goals which was spotlighted by 2 more from Ogbankwa who recorded his first career hat trick on the day while adding an assist as well. Chukuwma Maduwuba added another goal on the season to lead the team in goals with 11 while Osenose Ibhagui and Anthony Garcia each added one. Garcia also added two assists as well.

Saturday's outcome was the second time the Owls defeated Harrisburg on the year after earning an 8-1 victory again in Largo back on October 2nd.

With the win, the Owls advance to the East B district Tournament semi-finals which pits them up against the second seeded Ocean County College Vikings which Prince George's will face on Tuesday, October 24th at 2 PM. The winner will then move on to play the winner between #1 Rowan College of South Jersey – Gloucester, and #5 Northampton Community College who upset #4 Montgomery County in the bracket's other first round matchup. The winner of the District Championship earns an automatic bid to the NJCAA DIII National Championship held in Gastonia, NC held from November 8-12.
