Prince George’s Tops Anne Arundel With Shutout

A pair of goals from the Owls Chukuwma Maduwuba lifted the Prince George's Community College men's soccer team to a victory over Anne Arundel Community College on Thursday, October 5th. The same day Maduwuba was named the Region 20 Division III Men's Soccer Player of the Month for September, he scored the game's only goals in a 2-0 win to help his team improve to 4-4-1 on the year.

An evenly matched contest throughout the first half, both teams were able to control the ball and create attempts at the goal, but it was Prince George's who outshot the Riverhawks, 6-3, through the first 45 minutes. It was with just 11 seconds remaining in the half when Maduwuba found the back of the net after Osenose Ibhagui played a no-look pass to a driving Anthony Garcia who then sent the ball across the face of the goal to Maduwuba who came crashing in for an easy tap-in to head into the break on a high note.

It hardly took as long in the second half for the Owls to put another score on the board as Maduwuba found himself in Riverhawks territory again when an Anne Arundel defender appeared to foul him in the box. But with no whistle blown, Maduwuba popped himself up and recollected the ball before sending it past the Anne Arundel keeper to take a 2-0 lead in the 50th minute.

Anne Arundel responded with an aggressive attack which forced Owls goalkeeper Bilal Odeh to make three saves over the next 10 minutes of play while also defending against a Riverhawks corner kick during that same span. The Owls defense continued to hold strong over the final 20 minutes of play, allowing the Riverhawks to move the ball around but closing in and breaking up their attack as any realistic attempt at goal began to formulate, earning Prince George's their second win of the week. Maduwuba now has 8 goals scored on the season through 9 games while Odeh picked up his second shutout in the victory.

The Owls are back on the road next week as they travel to Carroll Community College on Tuesday before heading to CCBC Catonsville on Thursday. Both games are scheduled to begin at 4 PM.
