Owls Dominant in 8-1 Victory Over Harrisburg at Home

The Prince George's Community College men's soccer team found success early and often on Monday, October 2nd against visiting Harrisburg Area Community College. Behind the Owls best game offensively, Prince George's scored 5 first half goals before tacking on three more in the second half for an 8-1 victory over the Hawks in the Owls first divisional contest of the season.

With Anne Arundel moving to Division II ahead of the academic year, Prince George's entered the 2023 season as the only DIII program in Region 20 that fielded a men's soccer team. As a result, the Owls have been tasked with playing only DI and DII teams up until their matchup with Harrisburg.

It didn't take too long for the Owls to get on the board after Chukuwma Maduwuba scored in the 13th minute off an assist from Francis Ogbankwa. Both Maduwuba and Ogbankwa finished the day with 2 goals apiece, with Ogbankwa's pair of scores spanning less than one minute apart just as the first half came to a close to help put his team further in control, 5-1 at the break.

Harrisburg's lone goal came in the 30th minute after a miscommunication from the Owls defense and goalie Bilal Odeh which allowed the Hawks to cut into the Owls lead, 2-1 at the time. Julio Morales replaced Odeh in the 33rd minute and held the Hawks scoreless the remainder of the contest.

The Owls continued their attack in the second half as well, firing off 20 shots, 9 of which were on frame. Freshman Johnny Sesay was the first to find the back of the net after the break with a goal in the 72nd minute and another to cap off the scoring in the 87th minute, earning Sesay his fourth and fifth goals scored on the season. Sophomore Gabriel Tello Perea recorded his first goal of his two-year career as an Owl in between Sesay's scores.

Prince George's more than tripled the number of shots on the day, 34-10, and earned 7 corner kicks compared to Harrisburg's 3. The Owls improved to 3-4-1 with the win while Harrisburg dropped to the same record. Prince George's is back in action at home on Thursday, October 5th for a 5 PM game against Anne Arundel.
