Last-Minute Goal Secures Owls Their First Victory Of The 2023 Season

The Prince George's Community College men's soccer team earned their first victory of the season on Friday, September 8th over Northern Virginia Community College after a goal from freshman midfielder Johnny Sesay in the 88th minute gave the Owls a 3-2 lead as time winded down.

Sophomore Francis Ogbankwa opened the scoring in the first half when he netted his second goal of the season in the 23rd minute of action with an assist from Jose Flores. NOVA took twice as many shots as Prince George's (8-4) in the first half, but the Owls held strong on defense with 5 saves. The Nighthawks came out quick following halftime, netting two goals (50', 52') in under two minutes to take control, 2-1.

Prince George's freshman Chukuwma Maduwuba tied things up at two each in the 61st with another assist from Flores. After a few physical fouls and even a yellow card awarded to the Owls down the stretch, Sesay broke the tie with little time remaining to put his team in front, 3-2 with only two minutes left. Osenose Ibhagui assisted on the goal, Sesay's third of the season which leads the team.

Prince George's improved to 1-2-1 on the year with the victory and picked up some needed momentum heading into their matchup against Howard Community College on Tuesday, September 12th where the Owls and Dragons kick off at home in Largo at 5 PM.
