Owls Down Westmoreland In Sweep

The Prince George's Community College baseball team picked up two wins against their first Region 20 divisional opponent of the year, defeating Westmoreland 13-10, 7-4 on Friday afternoon.

The Wolfpack jumped out to an early lead with a four-run 1st inning and led by as many as 5 runs before the Owls went to bat in the bottom of the second inning. Prince George's erupted for 7 runs during the inning to take control, 8-6. Two of the Owls seven runs in the second came from Bennie Spady and Elias Nurideen stealing home. The Owls tacked on 5 more runs over the next two innings while Westmoreland added two in the fourth to cut into the Owls lead, 13-8. The Wolfpack threatened one last time in the sixth as they added two more runs to cut into the Owls lead but Prince George's was able to hold off the Wolfpack in the seventh with Joey Withers on the mound to secure the 13-10 victory. Freshman Jose Alvarez picked up the win for the Owls while Withers earned a save.

Elijah Tyler got the start on the bump for game two which again saw the Wolfpack jump out early as they picked up two runs in the top half of the first before Prince George's quickly responded with three runs in the bottom to take control. Freshman Santiago Jimenez knocked his team-leading sixth homerun of the year over the fence during the inning which put the Owls in front 3-2. The next four innings became a defensive battle as neither team scored until the sixth inning when the Wolfpack reclaimed the lead with two runs scored on a double down the left field line by Brayden Patton to put Westmoreland in front 4-3.

Trailing for the first time since the first inning the Owls again responded, this time with four runs which began with a Marcus Aulizia double into left center to send the tying run home. A Bennie Spady single RBI reclaimed the lead for the Owls before they picked up two more runs by the final out to go in front 7-4. Ryan Ahalt came in to relieve Tyler in the seventh inning and picked up the save after a double play at second and first and a strike out on the Wolfpack's final batter sealed the 7-4 victory for Prince George's.

The Owls improved to 6-14 with the pair of wins and are now a perfect 2-0 in Region 20 division III play ahead of their next divisional matchup against the Community College of Allegheny on Saturday, April 16th.
