2022 Owls Baseball Preview

The Prince George's Community College 2022 spring baseball season will officially get underway this weekend beginning Saturday, February 26th when the Owls welcome Brookdale Community College into the Owls Nest. Saturday's doubleheader will be the first game for the Owls under coach Gene Bowles leadership. Bowles was named the head coach of the Owls midway through this past summer after a ten-year run under previous coach David Foster.

Bowles spent the remainder of the summer recruiting to put together a team for the fall season and continued to recruit throughout the fall to improve his roster for this spring. This spring will also mark the first full season for Prince George's on the new turf baseball field after the inaugural 2020 season was cut short just ten games into the year due to COVID-19 and the 2021 season was shortened, allowing the Owls to play only 19 games on their home field since the project was completed in 2019.

This year the Owls look to get back to a renewed sense of normalcy surrounding their schedule with Prince George's currently slated to play 40 regular season games before postseason play begins in early May. The Largo program will have a handful of local doubleheaders before the Owls travel south to North Carolina during spring break the week of March 14th to take on Camp Community College and Region 10 Division III opponent Rockingham Community College. The Owls have a recent history with Rockingham who has defeated the Owls in the District Championship in both 2018 and 2019.

The Owls will return home to face their remaining Maryland JUCO foes throughout March and into April and will play host to all three of their Region 20 Division III opponents; Butler County (April 9), CCAC Allegheny (April 16), and Westmoreland (April 30) during the month of April. The Region 20 Division III Tournament will take place the first week of May before the Region 20 winner will host the Region 10 winner in the Mid-Atlantic District Championship. The winner will receive an automatic bid to the NJCAA Division III Baseball World Series held in Greeneville, Tennessee from May 28-June 4.
