Baseball Splits With Anne Arundel

The Prince George's Community College baseball team was able to complete the comeback in game one against Anne Arundel after finding themselves down early against the Riverhawks on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls took game one 12-5 to snap an eight-game losing streak before dropping game two, 14-2 in six innings. The Owls now stand at 4-14 on the season while the Riverhawks moved to 8-24 with the split.

Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the second inning, the Owls bats erupted as Prince George's put up 8 runs, four of which came on a Hector Vargas grand slam which was immediately followed by a Jose Acevedo solo homerun to cap off the inning. Joey Withers replaced starter Tanner Perkes to begin the third and proceeded to strike out three Riverhawks as he finished out the game with five scoreless innings to pick up the win. Withers finished out the game allowing just three hits on 22 batters faced as the Owls earned their first win since March 10th.

The Riverhawks jumped out early again in game two, loading the bases before a passed ball gave them the lead and an ensuing delay of game due to injury. Ryan Ahalt replaced starter Josh Scalish on the mound and finished the first inning with the Riverhawks in front 4-0. Four more runs across the next two innings put the Owls further behind, 8-0. Santiago Jimenez knocked a two-run shot over the fence in the third inning to put the Owls on the board but were outpaced by Anne Arundel who added three more in the fourth and sixth to put the Owls away, 14-2.

Prince George's is back in Largo for their Region 20 Divisional matchup against Westmoreland this Friday, April 1st at noon.
