Owls Baseball Enters Region 20 Tournament As Top Seed
The Prince George's Community College Baseball team travels to Pennsylvania this weekend for the NJCAA Region 20 Division III Baseball Tournament from Friday, May 6th to Sunday, May 8th. The tournament was originally being hosted by Westmoreland County Community College in Youngwood, but incoming weather has moved both Friday and Saturday's games to be played on turf at Sargent's Stadium at the Point in Johnstown, PA.
The Owls enter the tournament as the number one seed with a perfect 4-0 record in regional division games, having swept Westmoreland 13-10, 7-4 and CCAC Allegheny 4-2, 6-2 last month. Both doubleheaders were played at Prince George's. CCAC's Wildcats enter as the number two seed with a 15-8 overall record on the year and 2-2 in Region 20 Division III contests. Westmoreland is the third and final seed with a 7-17 overall record and 0-4 in Region 20 Division III play.
The Owls last won the Region title in 2019, their third straight title in as many years at the time. After COVID-19 cancelled the 2020 season, only Prince George's and Westmoreland entered the 2021 postseason which meant no official Region 20 Champion was named since there were only two teams that participated.
Now under new leadership with head coach Gene Bowles, the Owls are eyeing their opportunity to once again bring the Region Championship back to Largo, MD. Prince George's will get their chance as they open up the tournament this Friday, May 6th when they take on Westmoreland's Wolfpack at 10 AM. The full tournament layout can be found below. Fans should check the Owls baseball page for any schedule updates and gameday links, when available.
