No Power Outage For Prince George's Baseball Thanks To Six Homers In Sweep Against College of Southern Maryland

LA PLATA, Md. – Dakota McFadden (Largo, Md./Heide Trask [N.C.]) hit two homeruns and knocked in five runs in the opener while Harold Marte (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) smacked a grand slam in the nightcap to power eighth-ranked Prince George's Community College to a doubleheader sweep against the College of Southern Maryland  in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) baseball action on Tuesday. The Owls won the opener 10-8 and then took the nightcap, 15-6.

McFadden tied the game at 5 with a two-run homer to right center in the third and then pushed the advantage to three runs with his second homerun in as many innings in the fourth. He also knocked in a run in the sixth on an RBI groundout. After going 4-for-4 in the nightcap, McFadden posted a 6-for-8 afternoon with six RBI and three runs scored.

Marte watched McFadden take over the team lead in homeruns after his two-homer game in the opener with eight round trippers. The freshman came up in the first inning and smacked a grand slam to give the Largo team a 5-0 lead and tie McFadden for the team lead in homers with eight. Marte posted four hits, four RBIs and two runs scored on the afternoon.

Quentin Rohrbaugh (Largo, Md./Sherando [Va.]) went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored in the nightcap for the Owls (28-11-1, 12-10-1 MD JUCO) while Brandon Crosby registered three hits, four runs scored and two RBIs in the two games. Bay To (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann) added three hits, four hits, an RBI and picked up his first win of the season on the mound in the opener, and Kilian Bloat (Liberty, N.Y./Liberty) had three hits, a run scored and an RBI in the winning effort.

Rudy Carrico III paced the Hawks (11-25, 5-18 MD JUCO) with two hits and four RBIs. Dale Arbaugh III recorded a hit, three runs scored and two RBIs while C.J. Hill posted two hits, three runs scored and an RBI in the two games.

In the opener, the two teams traded the lead three times in the first four innings before Prince George's scored five of the last seven runs to come away with a 10-8 victory.

Trailing 6-5 in the fourth, Bloat led off the inning with his third homerun of the season to tie the game at 6. Crosby gave the Owls the lead for good when he plated Thomas Thorgersen (Largo, Md./Forest Hill [Va.]), who reached on an error, on an RBI groundout. After To doubled to left center, McFadden smacked his second round tripper of the game and eighth of the season to right center for a 9-6 advantage.

Alejandro Enriquez hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth to trim the deficit to 9-7.

Prince George's added a run in the sixth to restore a three-run advantage. Crosby was the catalyst like he has been all season by turning a single into a triple after reaching on a base hit to right field and then stealing both second and third before McFadden scores Crosby on a groundout to third base for a 10-7 lead.

Enriquez hit his second sacrifice fly of the game in the sixth to bring the Hawks within two runs at 10-8. In the bottom of the seventh, the College of Southern Maryland got the tying run on base with no outs, but Kevin Korneick (Largo, Md./Woodbridge [Va.]) got out of the jam with a strikeout, fielder choice and a ground out to earn the save.

The Largo program got the scoring started in the opener in the first inning. Crosby singled to the pitcher, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and touched home on a wild pitch for a 1-0 edge.

The Hawks tied the game in the bottom of the inning on an error and then added four runs in the second to grab a 5-1 advantage. Arbaugh, Hill, Jarett Faunce and Carrico each had RBIs in the four-run second.

A four-run third by Prince George's tied the game for the second time on the day at 5. Jared Davis (Largo, Md./Bayside [Va.]) reached on an error and came all the way around from first to score on Crosby's run-scoring triple. To brought home Crosby on an RBI double down the left field line before McFadden tied the game with a two-run shot to right center.

Zachary Wehausen momentarily regained the lead for the College of Southern Maryland at 6-5 on a sacrifice fly in the third, but a four-run fourth by the Owls gave them the lead for good to earn the win in the opening game.

In the nightcap there was no suspense after Prince George's scored seven times in the first inning and never looked back to complete their 10th doubleheader sweep of the season.

Crosby started the first with a walk and then stole second before To walked and Siri-Jacob Ramirez (Orlando, Fla./Cenapec [Dominican Republic]) was hit with a pitch to load the bases. After McFadden coaxed a bases loaded walk to score Crosby, Marte drilled a grand slam to center field for a five-run lead. Bloat then reached on a fielder's choice and came around to score on Rohrbaugh's two-run homer to right center for a 7-0 lead.

The Hawks got three runs back in the bottom of the stanza thanks a Carrico three-run triple to trim the margin to 7-3.

A three-run third extended the Owls advantage to 10-3. Ryan Faircloth (Wade, N.C./Cape Fear) started the rally with a double down the left field line and came around to score on Bloat's sacrifice fly. After Rohrbaugh singled up the middle and Naquan Holden (Brooklyn, N.Y./Perkiomen) singled through the left side, the duo moved to second and third on a wild pitch and Crosby scored Rohrbaugh on an RBI groundout. After To walked, Holden touched home while To was in a rundown between first and second.

Two runs in the fourth handed Prince George's a 12-3 margin. McFadden singled to right center and Marte doubled down the left field line before Faircloth reached on a fielder's choice and Bloat singled to center. Rohrbaugh hit a two-run single to bring home Marte and Faircloth.

The College of Southern Maryland put a three spot on the scoreboard in the fourth thanks to a solo homer by Austin Dulany, a run-scoring triple by Albaugh and a Faunce sacrifice fly to cut the score to 12-6.

After To reached on an infield single in the fifth, Ramirez smacked a two-run homer to center to extend the Owls lead to 14-6. In the sixth, Faircloth doubled and came around to score on an error to set the final score at 15-6.

Thomas Decker III (Grahamsville, N.Y./Tri-Valley) got the win and Thorgersen picked up the three-inning save in the second game.

The Largo program hit six homers in the two games while the College of Southern Maryland has six round trippers on the season.

Prince George's returns to action at Cecil on Thursday. Game time is 3 p.m.
