The Prince George's Community College women's basketball team got back in the win column on Thursday evening, defeating The College of Southern Maryland Club Team by a 40-point margin, 85-45.
The Owls, coming off a loss in their previous game against nationally ranked CCBC Essex, wasted little time as they jumped out to an early double-digit lead and never looked back. Prince George's had a 48-14 lead at the break and held the Hawks to fewer than ten points scored in each of the first three quarters before Southern Maryland managed to outscore the Owls in the final frame.
Freshman Kryslynn Stewart erupted for a triple-double in the Owls win, finishing with 25 points, 10 assists, and 10 steals in 28 minutes of action. Sophomore Kalise Evans finished second in scoring with 16 on an extremely efficient 8/10 shooting from the floor.
Along with a halftime recognition of the team's five sophomores, Thursday's game had a little extra meaning for the coaching staff of both teams. Prince George's head coach Devin May, in his 4th year at the helm of the program, faced off against his twin brother in his first year as coach of Southern Maryland. While the competition was intense at times during the game, it was all smiles from both coaches following the contest.
Up next, Prince George's will close out their regular season road schedule on Saturday, February 15th when they travel to western Maryland to take on Garrett College at 1 PM.
