Women’s Basketball Falls To CCBC Essex

The Prince George's Community College Lady Owls basketball team faced a tough opponent on Wednesday, January 22nd, taking on the NJCAA's 3rd ranked CCBC Essex Knights on the road, falling 88-63 for their first Region 20 divisional loss of the year.

The Owls managed to stay within striking distance in the first half, entering the intermission down 11, 43-32. Freshman Nia Grymes was the leading scorer for Prince George's at the break with 10 points and 3 rebounds while teammate Tamia Washington had 7 points to go with 3 assists.

Prince George's struggled in the third frame, scoring just 12 while Essex grew their lead with an 18-point quarter. The Owls picked up the scoring in the final ten minutes with 19 points but also had their worst defensive stretch of the evening, allowing Essex to score 27 to seal the 25-point loss for Prince George's.

Washington finished as the leading scorer for Prince George's with 18 points to go with her 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Jai'Den Anderson and Kryslynn Stewart both finished with 10 points apiece, joining Grymes in double digit scoring with 10 as well.

The Owls now have just one day to reset as they prepare to travel to Wye Mills, MD on Friday, January 24th to take on Chesapeake College at 5 PM.
