opening tip…
 Prince George's gets a second life at a chance at the NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championships when it travels to MC-Rockville Gymnasium to face Southern Crescent Technical College in the NJCAA Division III District VII Semifinals on Saturday. If the Owls win both games this weekend, they will be headed to Sullivan County Community College and the NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championships.

recent district history… Prince George's will be participating in the district tournament for the fifth time in the last seven years and the first since the 2015-16 campaign. The Owls went to the district tournament as the NJCAA Division III Region XX champion in 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 and lost in the semifinals. In 2011-12, the squad won the NJCAA Division III Region XX Tournament title before defeating West Georgia Technical College 83-81 in the NJCAA Division III District VII semifinals and then lost to Sandhills Community College in the championship game, 82-67. The last time Prince George's advanced to the NJCAA National Tournament was 2007-08 when the Owls were still a member of the NJCAA Division II.

the gym and tournament field… Sophomores Kennith Ford, James Hagins and Mykal Johnson will be playing their fourth game at the MC-Rockville Gymnasium on Friday. The trio played two games at the NJCAA Division III Region XX Tournament last season and then played Montgomery on the road this season. Ford is averaging 17.3 points per game and Johnson is averaging 14.0 points per game in that building. Prince George's has some familiarity with both possible matchups in the NJCAA Division III District VII Championship Game is it can get past Southern Crescent Technical College in the semifinals, a team that the Owls have played in at least the last six years. The Owls are familiar with Montgomery College thanks to its battles in Maryland JUCO and the NJCAA Division III Region XX Tournament, but the three sophomores also have seen Sandhills Community College. The two teams battled in the second game of the season in 2016-17 with Sandhills coming up on top 75-69 in overtime on its own home floor. Johnson posted 16 points and Ford added 12 points off the bench in last year's meeting. The Largo team also saw Sandhills at the NJCAA Division III District VII Tournament in 2015.

tip-ins… Sophomore Mykal Johnson reached 1,000 career points in the NJCAA Division III Region XX Semifinals against Westmoreland County Community College on Feb. 24. He has posted 18 points or more nine times on the road including a season-high 30 points and his first career triple-double. Sophomore Gus Stone is averaging 22.1 points per game in 14 road games this season and has notched at least 20 points in 12 of the 14 games away from Novak Field House. Sophomore Kennith Ford is averaging 14.0 points per game on the road. He registered a career-high 26 points on the road this season. Freshman Shiloh Beale has scored double figures in eight-straight games and is averaging 16.4 points per game in that stretch after averaging 6.3 points per game in his first 17 games in his collegiate career.

all-conference recognition… Sophomore Mykal Johnson was named to the All-Maryland JUCO first team. Sophomore Gus Stone earned an All-Maryland JUCO second-team nod. Johnson ranks ninth in the league with 17.1 points per game. The sophomore has posted double figures in 26 of the 27 games this season including 11 games with at least 20 points and a 30-point performance against Chesapeake College on Dec. 14. Johnson has also registered double figures in rebounds eight times this season for eight double-doubles. The Seat Pleasant, Md., native also registered a triple-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against Garrett College on Jan. 13. For his career, Johnson is seven points shy of the 1,000-point plateau going into the Owls game against Westmoreland County Community College on Saturday. He has posted double figures in points in 52 of 57 career games including 23 games with at least 20 points and three 30-point performances. He posted a career-high 36 points against Howard Community College on Jan. 25, 2017. Stone ranks sixth in the league with 18.1 points per game. Stone has posted double figures in points 21 times this season including 14 games with at least 20 points and two 30-point performances. He notched a career-high 33 points against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6. He also recorded 32 points and 10 rebounds for his first collegiate double-double against Garrett and finished the regular season by turning the trick twice. Stone is seven points shy of 800 for his career. He has found double figures 37 times in his career and has 22 games with at least 20 points and two 30-point performances.

next time on the hardwood… The winner of the NJCAA Division III District VII Championship moves onto the NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship at Paul Gerry Fieldhouse on the campus of Sullivan County Community College in Loch Sheldrake, N.Y., on Mar. 15-19.

now that's a career day… Sophomore Shiloh Beale notched a career-high 21 points against Harford on Feb. 16.. Sophomore Brian Ferguson scored a career-high 11 points against Frederick on Jan. 24. Sophomore Kennith Ford has posted a career-high 26 points twice this season after reaching the mark against Cecil on Nov. 29 and again against Northern Virginia on Jan. 22. Ford has also grabbed a personal-best 10 boards twice this season after posting 10 caroms against Butler County on Nov. 17 and against the Nighthawks on Jan. 22. Sophomore James Hagins matched his career high of 23 points against Howard on Jan. 17 after posting a collegiate-best 23 points against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6.  The sophomore also posted a career-high 16 caroms against the Dragons. Sophomore Mykal Johnson dished out a career-high 10 assists on his way to his first collegiate triple-double while sophomore Gus Stone hauled in 10 rebounds on his way to his first career double-double in the contest against Garrett on Jan. 13. Johnson grabbed a career-best 15 boards against Dragons. Stone also registered a career-best 33 points against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6. Sophomore Paul Golder notched a Prince George's high of 22 points against Anne Arundel on Jan. 5. Golder registered a career-best 23 points twice last season at another junior college. Freshman Darren Rivers registered a career-best eight points and 13 rebounds against Potomac State on Dec. 2. Sophomore Tavon Ngangum (12 points) had a Prince George's highs against Allegany College of Maryland on Nov. 15.

the point is double figures… Sophomore Mykal Johnson has posted double figures in 54 of his 59 career games including 28 games this season. Sophomore Gus Stone has posted 39 10+ games in his career including 23 of 26 tilts he has played this season. Sophomore Kennith Ford has 39 career double-figure point games including 22 this season while sophomore James Hagins has 13 double-figure games in his career including 11 this season. Freshman Shiloh Beale has 11 double-figure point performances this season. Sophomore Tavon Ngangum has two 10+ games in an Owl uniform and fellow sophomores Brian Ferguson and Paul Golder each have one.

20-20 vision…
 Sophomore Mykal Johnson has scored 20 points in a game 24 times and 30 points three in his career, including 10 times this season. Sophomore Gus Stone has 22 20-point performances and reached 30 points in a game twice this season. Stone has scored at least 20 points in 16 games this season. Sophomore Kennith Ford has six career 20-point games on his resume including four this season while sophomore James Hagins posted 20 points twice this season with a pair of 23-point outbursts. Freshman Shiloh Beale recorded 20 points for the first time in his career against Harford on Feb. 16 while sophomore Paul Golder reached 20 points for the first time in his Owls career against Anne Arundel on Jan. 5.

on the boards…
 Sophomore James Hagins has grabbed double figures in rebounds 13 times in his career including 11 times this season. Sophomore Mykal Johnson has hauled in 10+ rebounds eight times this season and freshman Darren Rivers has posted 10 caroms in a game twice this season while sophomore Kennith Ford has three double-figure rebound contest this season.

the dish…
 Sophomore Mykal Johnson became the first Owl player to register 10 assists in a game since Alex Morales handed out 13 assists against Allegany (Md.) on Jan. 13, 2017 when Johnson recorded 10 dimes against Garrett on Jan. 13, 2018. Johnson has handed out five or more assists six times this season and six times in his career. Sophomore Gus Stone has five 5+ assist games, including tilts with seven, eight and nine assists this season. Freshman Shiloh Beale has two six assists games this season and sophomore Tavon Ngangum has two games with at least five helpers on the year. Sophomore Kennith Ford has one five-assist tilt in 2017-18.

double trouble… Sophomore James Hagins has posted eight double-doubles including turning the trick six times this season. Sophomore Mykal Johnson has eight double-doubles this season including six since the New Year hit. Sophomore Kennith Ford has turned the trick three times and fellow sophomore Gus Stone has one double-double this season.

triple trouble… Sophomore Mykal Johnson recorded a triple-double against Garrett after registering 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists on Jan. 13. The 10 assists were a career best while the sophomore had two previous double-doubles before his triple threat against the Lakers.

nice to see you again…
 Sophomore Gus Stone has returned to the Owls for the 2017-18 season after playing in 2016-17. Stone ranked second on the team in his freshman campaign with 14.8 points per game and posted 20 double-figure performances including 11 games with 20 points or more.

welcome to the perch… Along with welcoming back Gus Stone, head coach Brian Johnson has added sophomores Paul GolderTavon Ngangum and Brian Ferguson, and freshmen Shiloh BealeDarren RiversBryon Scriber and AJ Perdomo to the team in 2017-18.

that's gold, jerry, gold…
 Prince George's is celebrating its 50th Anniversary of Prince George's Athletics in 2017-18. Prince George's unveiled gold uniforms for men's soccer against Cecil on Sept. 15 as part of the 50th Anniversary of Prince George's Athletics, A Celebration of the Past, Present, And Future. The men's and women's basketball teams unveiled their gold jerseys for the doubleheader against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6 and will be wearing them for select games the rest of the season.

men's basketball tradition…
 The men's basketball team has won the Maryland JUCO Tournament four times (1971-72, 1979-80, 1980-81, 2016-17) and the NJCAA Region XX crown seven times (1990-91, 1992-93, 2007-08, 2011-12, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16).

about the coach… Head coach Brian Johnson begins his second season as the men's basketball head coach. He led the Owls to a 21-9 record last season, to the Maryland JUCO Tournament title and to the NJCAA Region XX Division III title game. The 21 wins marked the first 20-win season since 2013-14. Johnson was inducted into his high school (Mount St. Joseph) hall of fame in the fall of 2017. The Owls are 36-23 under Johnson in his two seasons at the helm.
