Prince George's Men's Basketball Drops Offensive Showdown With Howard, 103-94

LARGO, Md. – Prince George's Community College dropped a Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) men's basketball contest to Howard Community College 103-94 on Wednesday.

James Hagins (Roanoke, Va./William Fleming) paced the Owls (13-6, 4-4 MD JUCO) with 23 points and 16 rebounds to match his career-high in points and establish a new personal best in caroms. The sophomore, who posted 23 points against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6, connected on 11 of 13 shots from the floor and 1 of 4 from the free throw line for his 23 points. Hagins notched his second career 20-point performance and his 10th career game in double figures in points. He also notched his second career game with over 15 rebounds and fifth career double-double.

Kennith Ford (Forestville, Md./National Collegiate Prep) also had 23 points for the Owls for his third career 20-point contest. Mykal Johnson (Seat Pleasant, Md./Charles H. Flowers) registered 20 points and a career-high 15 rebounds for his third career double-double and his second straight game turning a trick after posting a triple-double against Garrett on Saturday.

Gus Stone (Baltimore, Md./North County) also recorded 20 points for his 12th game this season with 20 points or more and 19th of his career. The sophomore added six assists, five rebounds and two steals in the loss.

Thanks to 11 points from Hagins and 10 points from Stone, Prince George's jumped out to a 26-14 blead with 10:23 left in the first half. Hagins nearly had a double-double in the first 10 minutes of the game after posting 11 points and nine rebounds in that stretch.

With the Owls holding a 36-24 with 6:03 left in the first half, the Dragons closed the stanza on a 26-11 spurt to go into the locker room with a 50-47 advantage after hitting a trey in the waning seconds of the half.

Howard held a 65-60 margin with 15:18 left in the game before the Owls scored the next seven points to take a 67-65 edge courtesy of a basket by Johnson and five points from Ford. Tavon Ngangum (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) gave Prince George's the lead one more time on a jumper with 13:18 remaining, but the Dragons retook the lead it would not relinquish.

The Owls return to action on Monday at Northern Virginia. Game time is 7 p.m.
